Customer Reviews
Great for caravans and motor homes, not for campers
We own the 2005 edition of the book. It is relatively easy to use and the reviews are helpful. We stayed at two of the places in this book and they were nice sites with good facilities ... However, most of the sites listed have lots of statics, caravans and motorhomes (if you know what I mean!!!). If you are looking for a peaceful, get-away-from-it-all type of site that some campers prefer, then this book is not for you.
Publisher - Pay attention to the print - it's a book!
Camping is a somewhat re-visited activity and, over the years, I'm used to 'AA' books, which are, generally, reliable and offer a list of places to troll through, so I grabbed the book off the shelf without really looking at it! Fool that I am.
Now, this is a book, right?... and you are meant to be able to read it easily, right?... OK, yes I wear 'readers' but the print is still somewhat small and the font could have been better, but my gripe is with the symbols for what each site offers...they are truly small and difficult to distinguish, especially in low light. The symbols are the key and worth a thousand words, so should be crystal! AND...what about dogs?...OK it has a symbol for 'dog exercise area', so one assumes dogs are welcome at these places, but if there is no separate exercise area what then? Positive information is needed.
Poor coverage of Republic of Ireland
I bought this after confirming with the AA by email that it covers the Republic of Ireland, but the coverage is minimal - only ten sites from 150 plus in the country, so it was little use and I had to go to sites like www.camping-ireland.ie instead. It looks OK for the UK though.
