Product Description

A Taste of the Country is a celebration of country living and an invitation to town and country folk to get more involved with the land around them and the food that they put on their plate. As well as eighty recipes for traditional British farmhouse dishes from shepherd's pie to rhubarb crumble, homemade chutney to elderberry jam, there is information about gathering wild food, keeping a few chickens, growing your own salads, whittling walking sticks, cooking with edible flowers, pickling and preserving and much more. The dreamy, rural lifestyle captured between the pages will guarantee that all readers can have their very own taste of the good life.

About the Author
Jimmy Doherty was born in the beautiful Essex countryside, and has been passionate about nature and farming for as long as he can remember. After leaving school, he became an entomologist at Molehall Wildlife Park, the Natural History Museum and Coventry University but in 2003, he decided to leave the study of insects behind him to set up a rare breed pig farm in Suffolk. His trials and tribulations were filmed by the BBC and he wrote his first book On the Farm to accompany the series. He still lives and works on the farm with his girlfriend, 300 pigs, 3 cows, 15 sheep, 2 dogs and 100 chickens.

Excellent5
Recipes that you will actually want to try with no fancy ingredients or complicated instructions. The photos show dishes that have just come out of the oven, reality with burnt edges! If you have a taste for chilli's do try the sweet chilli jam. The recipes are also geared to anyone who grows their own and has a surplus. So what do you do with all those tomatoes, apples and dwarf/runner beans every year? A good present for the gardener or cook.

A fine follow up to On The Farm!!5
Yet again, another great book from Jimmy. It's great to see how the farm has grown from one series to the next - Jimmy - go ahead with guinea pig island - classic idea. Great and tasty recipies.....try the all in one can of beer stew and 'Chaelas chilli cheese sticks....yummy indeed (The smell of cooking wafting from his house into ours was just as good but now we can taste it too!!)
Been a long time since he was here in Coventry but great to see he is living his dream and doing it so damn well too!! A great guy with a down to earth (quite literally) nature and still a fantastic sense of humour. Buy it and enjoy!!
