Synopsis
Israel has discovered that Saddam Hussein is close to entering the nuclear arms race - and they've vowed to stop the Iraqi madman before he can get his hands on the ultimate weapon. With the Middle East teetering on the brink of chaos, the US president is forced to act. The commander in chief's secret weapon? Top counterterrorism operative, Mitch Rapp. Israel has given the USA only two weeks to take the nukes out. After that, they'll do whatever it takes to destroy the weapons themselves. With the haunting spectre of World War III looming, Rapp must race against time and impossible odds - tearing through the deadly alleyways of Baghdad and the corruption-riddled streets of Washington DC, taking drastic measures against anyone who gets in his way.
Customer Reviews
If Saddam had been going nuclear.
Written before 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq one might argue this book is dated but it is still a fun read seeing what could have been done to stop a nuclear programme that was housed under a hospital. This is a typical American thriller with big business pressurising politicians. Politicians try to disrupt the appointment of a new CIA director who is party to a secret project which has terminated those considered enemies of the US. The President wants a way the remove Saddam's WMDs before he goes nuclear. To head the mission is the hero of the book, a secret CIA assassin who himself has nearly been terminated. h wants to find out who is out to get him. Thrill a minute stuff if you are happy with America as the good guy.
AT LAST
As my title says "AT LAST". The best noval I have read in a whille.
If you are looking for a politically correct author who is afraid to actually take a risk with the things he mentions in his books, then you are going to be very disappointed. The detail and reserch that goes into his books is something to admire in itself. And he has created a character, to be honest, that is a breath of fresh air. And the best thing about it is, it is so realistic. you can actually imagine yourself doing these things.
An absoloute pleasure to read. 5 stars
All's fair in love and war
This is a better book than the 'The Third Option', thankfully. It moves along at a reasonable pace. Vince Flynn is never better than when detailing the action exlpoits of his superhero. I think he falls down when writing about the relationship Mitch has with just about anybody female, especially his girlfriend. On the other hand, this "I want to know now" attitude from several of the characters in the books tends to have me believe that Americans rarely have the right reasons for doing the right thing. In this respect, the author certainly reflects current day events. I'm looking forward to the next instalment.
