When Auraya was chosen to become a priestess, it meant leaving behind her village, her family and the friendship she had formed with Leiard, the local Dreamweaver. Masters of herb lore and healing, Dreamweavers were despised for their heathen beliefs, and Auraya knew that she must hide her respect for the godless healers if she was to succeed in her new role. Now, ten years later she is a Priestess of the White, gifted with exceptional powers by the gods. Auraya still needs time to fully adapt to her new abilities but time is the one thing she does not have. Mysterious black-clad sorcerers plague the land, raising fears that these powerful strangers may even be stronger than the gods' chosen five. As hostile forces gather momentum, the White work to seal alliances wherever they can. If the land is to be drawn back from the brink of war, Auraya will need to master her Gifts and call upon all of the courage and wisdom at her disposal. For if the tide is not turned quickly, Auraya fears she may be remembered as the last Priestess of the White...

Too similar, boring and doenst suck you in
Unlike the decent black mage series this one sucked. I was quite hyped up and got the hardback when it came out. I was itching for it. But I was highly disappointed. The characters are too similar to those from the black mage series and its just not gripping. I gave it a bit of a chance but unfortunatly its a book I couldnt read which is a big warning sign for me. It was boring and this lead to me having to relegate it to my undread pile. Perhaps I will give it a shot again but there are otehr books I'd rather read.
Its also not immersive. It doesnt suck you in, a good book will make you want to turn the page (last night i stupidly stayed up till 5am to get to page 300 of a book that sucked me in right from the beginning)
So I would advise giving this a miss.
Fab read
I have to say I loved this book. I have read the Magician's Guild trilogy first, but was not disapointed with this one. After reading the Priestess of the white I had to rush out and buy the other two as I was so rapt up in the story.
I loved all the characters and love how the story goes from one character's story to another without becoming confusing. I also liked the fact that you might have had an idea of what might be coming next, but not how the story was going to get there.
All in all a very enjoyable read.
Auraya Fan
Found this an absoloute beauty of a book, really engrossing, entertaining and a 'magical' read, a great find. Canavan, portrayal of the characters is great and the way the atmosphere is described throughout is excellent. A particulary large and varied number of main characters, similar to LOTR, and similar yet in some parts better in terms of context also. Really enjoyed the coverse relationship between two of the main characters Auraya and Leiard. Overall, Superb.
