Customer Reviews

Classic action movies5
I had been waiting for all three of these films to be brought out in a box set for quite some time. To see them at this great price meant I bought the box set instantly, without really thinking too much about the extras that would be included.

All three films are excellent and follow the unfortunate happenings to cop John McClane (Bruce Willis), who is at home in the role and plays his part excellently. The plotlines are fairly straightforward but effective, which lets face it is exactly what you want when watching action films. The action is gripping and you get the requisite explosions, gunfights and crazed terrorists that you would expect. Perhaps the strange thing is that all three of the films are of a good standard and perhaps the third is the best just for the games that are set. These movies are, in my eyes, much better than the usual action movies that get churned out time and again and definitely worth buying as they all stand up to further viewings.

To be honest I do not really watch the extras with any films I have, although the ones included with this trilogy do seem to include a decent amount and are more than the audio commentaries that are often just thrown in.

In giving 5 stars I have judged these films on value for money entertainment and within the action genre, not within the whole movie field, as there are definitely better films out there. If there was a down side it could only really be that maybe just maybe the films are starting to look a little dated but the quality of the action is still there. If you are after an action movie to sit down and relax with you really cannot go far wrong with this set and at this price it is surely a bargin.

Excellent all round package5
This DVD 6 disc set is really well put together. The films are obviously great (particularly the first one) but the special features here are as good as anything you'll find on any DVD. There's some excellent multi angle viewing features where you can reshoot some of the great scenes (Takagi's execution being one) from different angles. The interactive menu's are impressive too. There's so much good stuff here that I can't recommend it highly enough. A set so comprehensive, that it does more than justice to the films.

Absolutely brilliant...... but a new box set will almost certainly be released in 20085
A fantastic box set which contains Special Editions of the first three Die Hard films. Each film is a double disc set and packed full of extras such as promotional material, behind the scenes featurettes, scene deconstructions and so much more. This has to be the best action trilogy out there - each film is equally enjoyable in my opinion, with witty one-liners and plenty of action. This box set also includes a special full-colour booklet which contains interesting background information on the films and is actually very informative. There is also a film cell reproduction included - I think the film cell is the same in all copies of the box set, with John McLane looking out the window of the skyscraper in the original Die Hard (wearing his now iconic sweat and blood stained white vest of course). It is supposed to be a limited edition box set but it's been in large supply for years now, although I suspect that could soon change when Die Hard 4 gets its DVD release in early 2008. This is a brilliant box set that is good value for money but expect to see a brand new box set containing all four films in the new year.

* Note: Since submitting this review I have noticed that the film cell is no longer included with this box set, nor is the booklet. It seems the box set has been slightly repackaged inside - the cardboard cases (with artwork on the inside cover) being replaced by generic plastic cases. Whilst this might not bother most people I thought I would mention it. This still represents very good value for money - 3 classic films, 6 discs and loads of extras!
