Great source for studying Italian at intermediate level.
The short stories are entertaining, and they cover Italian writers from Machiavelli to Pirandello.
But the reason I bought this book is to study Italian. With Italian on the left and English on the right, this collection presents students with an easy way to build vocabulary and sample "literary" writing not found in regular textbooks.
Students should have at least an intermediary knowledge of Italian, in order to at least recognize the various past tenses employed.
Great format - but very challenging read
I would have given this book 5 stars but decided not to for one reason. What is great about this book is that you have both Italian and English translations which is great for learners of both languages. BUT - the stories are quite a challenging read. Most of the stories are written in antiquated Italian which may not be suitable for beginners. Even the more modern stories from the last century are written by Italian scholars - and that was also a difficult read, not to mention hard to get in to.
