Dorina Basarab is a dhampir - half-human, half-vampire - and the only way she can stay sane is by unleashing her sometimes uncontrollable rage on demons and vampires that deserve killing. After the fortunate demise of her insane uncle Dracula, Dory is back home in Brooklyn, hoping that life will calm down for a while. But then two visitors arrive: her friend Claire, asking for Dory's help in finding a magical Fey relic, and the gorgeous master vampire Louis-Cesare, desperate to find his former mistress, a vampire named Christine. Dory and Louis-Cesare soon discover their problems may be connected: the same master vampire Christine is bound to is also rumored to be in possession of the relic. But they soon realize there's more at stake when Christine's master turns up dead. Someone is killing vampire Senate members, and if Dory and Louis-Cesare can't stop the murderer, they may be next . . .

Action-packed adventure
A highly enjoyable sequel to 'Midnight's Daughter' - with the same core cast of characters. The story picks up about a month from the end of the previous book and Dorina is now working more closely with her father, Mircea, it's nice to see this relationship develop from the 1st book. Louis-Cesare is once again Dory's chief antagonist and ally and their sparing is as amusing and sexy as first time around. The book is a roller-coaster ride of action-adventure with Dory and Louis-Cesare lurching from one life-threatening scenario to the next and there's plenty of running, jumping and fighting to keep you turning the pages. If I have one (small) complaint, there may be a little too much action - I would have liked more time spent in explaining Christine (Louis-Cesare's former mistress who he leaves Dory to search for at the end of book one), some more focus on Claire and Dory's friendship and some time for Dory and Louis-Cesare to do something other than save each other's lives and make out. Overall however, if you are a fan of Karen Chance this is a really good sequel and sits nicely alongside, yet separate from, the Cassie Palmer books.
Fab
I stumbled upon Karen Chance pretty much by accident after a recommendation from Amazon. Her books are not 'light weight' & are certainly not 'chick lit'.
These are smoothly written & with well thought out plots and exciting story lines.
Dory is no shy heroine & that to me is part of the attraction of this series. The plot is quite complicated so this is not the type of book that you can 'skim' read. This requires full reader involvement to keep up with all the twists and turns of the plot. The characters are well developed & as a reader you feel really involved with this book.
I love Karen Chance's approach to humour which is quite 'black' in places (a humour used and abused by NHS workers). Some of the situations with Ray the headless vampire are hilarious.
I give this book 5 stars because it has everything. I love Dory's approach to life... make the best of a bad thing & she seems to get more of that than most.
I think Karen Chance's best book to date.
If you've never read any of her book ...try them...she is very talented but start at the being or you'll miss out on quite a lot of the plots.
