Excellent piece of kit..........
Arrived on time (as expected from Amazon). Connected to my PC and hey presto I have another Hard Drive in "My Computer" with 320GB of free storage space. This is only connected by the USB cable and is obviously drawing its power from my USB port, tried on my son's laptop and it is detected no problem. (I understand from other reviews that there could be powering problems on older laptops, but according to the documentation a free power supply can be obtained from Freecom, if required). Nice design, it looks clean and sleek on my computer desk, its amazing you can get this much data on such a small device nowadays. By the way this is the forth Freecom product I have bought over time and I'm very impressed with the products and the technical support that is provided. Anyway, I love it.

Does what it say's on the 'tin' (ahem, aluminum)
I'm a DJ and needed a separate drive to use with my MacBook + Ableton Live for chillout sessions. Initially I went to my local Mac store and almost feinted when they told me that I would be charged over a hundred pounds for just a 250GB internal drive. Naturally, I wasn't having any of it, so I looked through all the best reviews for mobile drives and found this Freecom series.

And I couldn't be happier with it - just Plug and Play even without the need for a seperate AC adaptor. My PC recognized it instantly and installed the drivers in about a minute, while my MacBook installed it in about 5 seconds. Haven't even needed to use the enclosed CD-ROM (I daren't jinx it!)

The aluminum casing is good enough; has quite a tinny feel when you tap it but feel strong. The design of the drive itself is incredible slim, with a glowing blue 320GB logo on the front when it's active. As theirs no fan, it's generally very quite, though obviously this is irrelevant for myself given the size of our speakers. The USB cable is also the perfect length - making the drive ideal on top of a tower PC or beside a Mac.

In terms of battery life, I'd say this is incredibly efficient given it's capacity and read/write speed. It only takes around 20minutes of my MacBook's battery life which is great, but if you're traveling, you always have that option of either powering your laptop or drive separately. Great!

The only thing I would say is that the compatibility is more efficient with Mac than PC. On Mac OS X, you have the ability to 'Eject' a drive, which with this Freecom, turns off the drive motor, but keeps it in a powered state. Also remember with thee hard drive don't just unplug them when you're done; remove it safely through you're PC. I forgot to do this on my XP Media Centre and the drive gave a rather sad sound as I pulled it out...

I'm not a great techy but I highly recommend this. It's tiny design and ease of use, in my books, makes using internal Hard Disk Drives for lots of documents a thing of the past!

Good external hard drive
I bought this to connect to a satellite receiver that had a record facility. Recomended by Technomate this hard drive has recorded SD and HD programmes without problem. Its small size allows easy transter of films to the PC and then home network Recomended
