Review
"This is a heartening book: light at the end of the tunnel, in the form of specific ideas and a general invitation to put yourself back in control." The Times Educational Supplement, 30th June, 2006
From the Author
Work-life balance – a practical guide for teachers
I’m passionate about work-life balance because when I work in schools I see what can happen to teachers who lose track of work-life balance in their own lives.
I see teachers achieving less, suffering more illness and work-related stress, getting frustrated because they can’t fit all they want to fit into their lives and feeling guilty because it’s often their loved ones - the people who really matter to them - who suffer alongside them as they battle their way through life.
In this book I’ve drawn on my experience of helping teachers to deal successfully with a range of work-life balance challenges. Some of the challenges are school-based – like the culture and the job. Some are personal – like learning how to say "no" and meaning it or finding ways of switching off from school in the evening or at the weekend.
I think you’ll like the book. Use the audit to help you understand the particular work-life balance challenges you face. Then use the guidance in the book to help you change your approach to your working life and to your life outside work.
And in six months make a judgement about how much the quality of your life has improved. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
