Some of Lilian Harry's earliest memories are of nights spent in a Portsmouth air-raid shelter, listening to the drone of enemy aircraft. But they are also of warm family life continuing in spite of the fears and anxieties of the time. This brought back memories of a time when I was a child.
This book is set in a time when I was a little girl. It brought back memories long forgotten. I remember going to a Corner House and seeing the nippies. It filled the gaps of things I was too young to remember. The book is the type that once you start reading it is difficult to put down. It was a shame when it came to an end. I cann't wait for the next one later on in the year

An excellent read. First in new series from Lilian Harry
Like Lillian Harry's previous sequence of books Goodbye Sweetheart etc., you really feel that you get to know the characters and want to find out how the story is going to develop. I cannot recommend them highly enough particularly if you enjoy the stories continuing in subsequent books.

Couldn't put it down!
Wonderful story, my nan was a nippy and she used to talk about it but it meant nothing to me. I now feel like I understand a part of her life much better.

I love the fact that this story will carry on in another book as there's nothing more frustrating than getting to the end of a book and desperately wanting to know what happened next.
