You'll find you can't drag yourself away - in short, you can't stop yourself learning.'

Manufacturer's Description

The Talk Now! Range is the world's best selling language learning CD-ROM series for beginners, used by more than eight million people to date. Talk Now! caters for all types of beginner: young learners from the age of 4, families, students and people going abroad with no knowledge of the language. It is simple to use, with no installation required - the program runs straight from the CD, and is compatible with the latest versions of Mac and Windows.

Eurotalk software is completely intuitive - the simple interface means that learning is as easy as pointing and clicking. Speech recording allows you to record your voice and compare it with native speakers. Quiz yourself with 2 levels of difficulty to test what you've learnt - earn points and monitor your progress, then take on the memory man and get the maximum possible 1800 points to receive the gold award! Learn at your computer - or alternatively, print out pages of the printable picture dictionary, or you can learn on the move using the iPod application.

Above all, EuroTalk discs are designed to be fun. Research in the early 1990s at the University of California revealed that memory is greatly improved when accompanied by fun and laughter. Our quizzes, games and stories provide this and you will be amazed how much you remember after a surprisingly short time devoted to a disc.

'This is an excitingly different language learning series. Talk Now! uses games and quizzes as a basis for making the learning process fun and relaxing. Talk Now Slovenian4
This software was really good for getting a grip of the most basic phrases and vocabulary to make a trip abroad go a bit smoother. A particular advantage over using the more traditional tapes or CDs is that you can listen to phrases over and over in any order. It is also interesting how easy it makes it to pick up pronunciation of the written word - words are displayed as they are "spoken" by on screen animated characters and this seemed to help me to remember how different letters sound in Slovenian as opposed to English. So after a while I could have a go at pronouncing unfamiliar words reasonably.

The disadvantage of this product is that the software will not teach you to build phrases at all. All the short phrases included have to be repeated as a whole, it is not clear what the individual words mean. The biggest problem is that while there is lots of vocabulary for things like items of shopping, numbers, colours etc. there is nothing to tell you how to put them to use. So, for example, if you want to go in a shop and buy something you'll have to resort to pointing, because there's nothing to tell you how to say "I would like..." or similar.

Other than that I think Talk Now Slovenian caters well to its target market, and could genuinely help people to get confident with Slovenian pronunciation through a very accessible medium.

For Holiday Slovenian5
After a holiday in Spain when I didn't even know how to say 'Hello' I vowed I would never go so ignorantly abroad again. Having booked a holiday in Slovenia I wanted to learn at least a smattering of the language. This was brilliant. It broke the language into bite size pieces. I heard how to pronounce words and it gave me the words and phrases I wanted. It was also fun to do with 'friendly' graphics. The print out dictionary was helpful for revision. For basic Slovenian, I recommend it.
