Social Play
One of the most important features contributing to the Monster Hunter series' rampant popularity in Japan is the social aspect of the games. This feature continues via the PSP's Ad-Hoc connection in Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. From devising strategies to executing attacks, players will need to work together in order to hunt down the ferocious beasts and progress through the wide range of quests on offer. And this effort and cooperation is never in vain. Succeed in this and players will be rewarded for their use of the deep fighting combat systems, encouraging them to seek out even more experienced hunters and team up in order to learn from their experience.

New Game Features
New to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the fully customizable AI "felyne" companion who accompanies players on quests and gathers extra resources. He can even can be shared and traded with other players. Also new to Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the improved "Media Install Option." This new way to play gives players the ability to save portions of the game from UMD to Memory Sticks. This results in much faster load times, as well as improved PSP system battery life since your UMD will not have to be engaged every time your game requires a new file. Finally, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite features a certain level of compatibility with the rest of the Monster Hunter franchise. Fans of the series will be pleased to hear that they can transfer their character and data from Monster Hunter Freedom 2 over to the new game.

All-New Monsters to Battle
There are five new monsters to the game waiting to challenge gamers in battle. These include the Nargacuga, who inhabits the old forest and attacks at lightning speed; the Lavasioth, a lava-breathing reptile who hides in volcanic areas; and the Hypnocatrice, a birdlike monster that wards off hunters with its unique ability to produce sleeping gas.

Customer Reviews

I'm rating this game based on the Japanese version5
Some of you may have already know, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite is the same as Monster Hunter Portable 2G over in Japan. However, since:

1. The game is in a different language
2. Versions were protected by regions
3. Saves can not be transfered from Japan into Europe (an vice verser)
4. Multiplayer mode doesn't work if ther versions were different.

They called it MHFU in Europe and US instead.

Questions you may have asked is: what makes MHFU different from MHF2?

1. You can carry over all of your items and equipments from your previous Monster Hunter 2 Freedom's Save.
2. There's 9 new monster in MHFU
3. In Single player mode, you can take a cat with you during your mission. (My favourate is a cat which uses bomb lol).
4. Once you were into G Missions, almost every Monster gets a new move.
5. Smacking a monster on it's head with a hammer now accompanies a star effect (so you know you are hitting the right spot). Once you smack the head for a sufficient number of times, you can actually stun the monster for bit of laugh. (Not to mention you have created a valuable opportunities for other players so deal with serious damage to whatever you were killing).
6. Enhancement in Hunter Stats (which recordes the number of different type of weapons you have used and so on).
7. Added multi-hunting missions so you'll need to take on 2 - 5 different monsters in the same mission (but its like one monster after another). (E.g. In one of you mission, you'll need to take down Tigrex then Rajing. Rejing only appears after Tigrex is dead).

I've completed my MHP2 by using 350 hours. With MHP2G, I've bring my save upto 650 hours. So in another word, there's still plenty you can do in MHFU.

Lastly, a bit of advice. For those of who wanting to play this game in multi-player mode but having trouble to find people to play with: You can grab yourself a PLANEX Wi-Fi USB Adapter. By using this adaptor plus a software called "Xlink Kai", you can actually link your PSP to anyone else across the world and join a multi-player game as you wish.

THe USB adaptor cost anything from 12 to 20 pounds but XLink is absolutely FREE. It could be a bit tricky to setup with (coz you'll need to change your PSP channel, open 2 ports in your routers and change some of your wireless USB settings). But it does seriously enhance your gameplay experience.

Monster Hunter Rocks!5
I have the previous version of this game with over 500 hours of gameplay and i still have a way to go. This game has great graphics for a portable game, it has so many quests it will be almost impossible to complete and it takes a lot of skill to complete. You can play with up to three other players using the psp connection and this makes it even more fun. This game is an all time favourite and is great value for money. You will not be disapointed.

(edit)
now i have the game and i've been on it for 70 hours i realise that loading times have been lowered and with data install (putting some of the game onto the memory stick so that it loads from the disc and stick at same time makes it load extremely fast (3-5 secs (but it requires about 580mb free)) the game has 3 new hunter ranks and you can now do tribe chief high rank quests (nekoht) for 3 more stars. There are quite a few new monsters but in g level all the old monsters have new moves. most of the old monsters also have a new coloured variant on g level quests (e.g. copper blangonga or emerald congalala). This game is potentially limitless because to get every single weapon and armour could take you years because there are so many.

Many people think the game is linear and repetitive but i think that capcom find a way to make it less repetitive every time they release a new one.

The game does however include the same village from the last game but, if they changed village you wouldnt be able to upload your account from mhf2 (if you had one) which is why i definitely wanted to buy this game.

I think many people don't like this game because even to good players, it can be extremely frustrating and hard but that is why it is so addictive!

In single player mode you now have a felyne (cat) warrior who can fight for you but i would recomend this game to anyone with a psp.

If it is possible, i think you should try to find as many people to play with as you can because multiplayer just intensifys the action, making it more fun.

My favourite bit of the game is in the gathering hall, you can sit down on the bench and do different actions like getting drunk :)

You will not regret buying this game...

Be wary of the shadows

What else is there to say?5
Monster Hunter is a great franchise, largely because it can be so damn frustrating!

You take the role of the village monster hunter and are basically sent out into the wild (not alone in this version, you can take a cat with you!) to perform various tasks, of which getting rid of a rather large beast is the primary mission. You can either kill or capture (more reward for capture). When you have finished your mission, you can do another one, and work your way up.

Unlike more "traditional" games on this genre, you don't have levels as such. You improve by knowing more about the game, and ultimately, better equipment (which can be fashioned from the stuff you get from quests and monsters).

One of the best things about this game though, is that despite the infuriating difficulty at times, you can easily see progress. For example the first time you fight Khezu (one of the monsters in a earlyish mission), you might last about four minutes. The next time, you may survive for 8 minutes. After a few runs, the improvement (as you improve from seeing how creature attacks, and where and when their weaknesses are) pays off and you will take him down. Personally, I find this surprisingly rewarding. Each big fight is more "personal" that most games. Almost like a duel, and as such, the feeling of victory is so much better (and so much more annoying when you get caught out and fail the mission!).

While most of the missions are of three or so basic types, the sheer complexity of the game and the equipment makes this game just so addictive.

I think it is the type of game that people will love or hate. If you want a game that you can pick up and have the basics of in five minutes, this is not the game for you (you can and should spend hours on training missions). If you want a real challenge with a clever combat and equipment system, you just might love it.
