Eisner award-winning writer Kurt Busiek (JLA/Avengers, Astro City), Eisner award-nominated artist Cary Nord (Daredevil), and Eisner award-winning color artist Dave Stewart (Ultimate Fantastic Four, DC: The New Frontier) continue their groundbreaking run on Dark Horse's best-selling Conan series with an adaptation of one of Robert E. Howard's greatest Conan tales, "The Tower of the Elephant"! Fed up with both civilization and mysticism, Conan travels to the infamous City of Thieves to take out his frustrations. When a bar fight uncovers the legend of the impregnable Tower of the Elephant, he becomes determined to rob it, setting out on a quest unlike any he's undertaken - one that will involve new comrades, sudden death, horrifying creatures, and gruesome unsettling fates for both gods and men.

Another solid volume from Conan reviving team
Beautiful art, skillful storytelling and amazing ideas breath fresh life into Howard's evergreen creation. This, volume 3 and the other volumes will not fail to excite and entertain, both new Conan fans and old. The writing manages to convey the power and might of the central character without sacrificing pace or story telling. We are given a brooding violent version of Conan without being bored by endless pages of fighting, however the fight scenes as they are are both economic and yet powerful, Cary Nord's fantastic pencils convey the action in one or two panels that other artists would take pages to do. The re-telling manages to be faithful to Howard's originals, being both epic and action packed, without slavishly copying them, it is wonderful to see Conan capturing a whole new generation of fans through this truly beautiful series.
another great book in the series
Its not exactly like these books can get any better, from the first they were very well written, taking the best from howards original writing, and adding to it the modern twists and nuances of graphic novel writing. The artwork as always is absolutely amazing, full colour throughout and printed on high quality paper.
Even though conan is a pretty basic character, never really having more than the side he shows the world, it is the world conan lives in that sets these books apart. hyperborea becomes in your mind a real land, it could be real history instead of complete fiction, and the characters that inhabit these lands are in no way clichéd and are very believable as people.
If at all possible i do recommend reading howards complete chronicles of conan. Even though it is a fairly slow novel it will build on conan's world and make these graphic novels, which must have been heaviy inspired by howards writing (an not the films), so much more lifelike.
There isnt really a bad thing i can say about this book or any in the series i have read so far.
Best volume yet
Continuing this excellent Conan series, one of the most famous stories, "The Tower Of The Elephant", is now here in all it's splendor, penciled by the delightful Cary Nord. Don't miss this and other volumes in the series if you are a Conan fan!
