Product Description

The kitchen is no longer a place simply for storing, preparing and cooking food. These days it often doubles up as an eating area, home office, play room and entertainment zone forming the backdrop to much of everyday living. In this book, Terence Conran explores the expanded role of this room and its central importance in our homes. Special features reveal the kitchens of experts and individual case studies highlight specific elements of design. There are chapters in planning your room as well as a section on basic elements which provides a comprehensive dictionary for the fundamental elements of kitchen design.

Editorial Reviews

Review
As the sub-title of the book states, this is a recipe book of comfort food for people on the move. Easy to prepare, easy to serve, the recipes are perfectly suited for today's busy lifestyle. Covering soups, salads, pasta, rice, wok cooking, curries and one-pot meals, it is an eclectic yet tasty collection of foods from around the world. From beef and borscht soup, Thai beef salad, macaroni cheese with pancetta to rogan josh and chilli con carne, the world is quite literally your oyster. Each recipe is attractively illustrated and the cooking instructions are clear and simple. Missing only deserts, this is a handy book to have on the shelf when you've had a busy day. For yourself or for dinner for friends, the variety ensures something for everyone. And being served in a bowl, the food is perfect for eating anywhere - from a made-up dinner table, an alfresco supper or just the sofa in front of the television, "Bowl Food" makes sure you still have time for yourself and not just the kitchen. - Lucy Watson

Delicious recipes for all tastes5
It is impossible not to find something in this book that you would like to eat. From rich Italian risotto and pasta recipes to healthy flavoursome eastern dishes, each recipe appears on its own page with a beautiful colour photograph of the finished dish. There are nearly 200 recipes divided into soups, salads, pasta, rice, wok, curries and "one pots". The recipes I most like are for the wok - since I am in a healthy eating phase at the moment and yearn for flavoursome, yet low-fat eating. Yakiudon - a Japanese dish of thick noodles with ginger, soy sauce, shredded cabbage and peppers, has become a family favourite. Stir fried lamb with mint and chilli was a huge hit at an informal dinner party. I bought this book as a present for a friend and immediately had to buy it for myself.

Yummy food that's a bit different4
Packed full of ideas for everyday and special meals this book hits just the right note with me.

The recipes are authentic, which can mean lots of ingredients, but rarely complicated. They are always packed full of flavour and my personal favourits include the Laksa and mussaman curry.

This book manages to successfully include recipies from all over the globe while retaining authenticity. - a definate recommendation!

This is a book of magic not recipes..5
As a person who lives a busy lifestyle and who doesn't have a lot of time to cook and eat, this book has brought so many smiles to my face. The recipes are very easy to follow and a lot of the food in here is simple and quick to make. While if you want to entertain and spend a bit of time and effort into having friends over for dinner there are recepes to cater for this as well. Plus I haven't cooked a meal out of this that wasn't absolutely delicious. Normally I will pick a recipe apart and add and take out ingredients, but I haven't touched one of them in here. Bravo!!
