Average customer review:Product Description
"As a PSIA examiner I have worked with Kevin on and off the snow for several years. His creativity and knowledge of what works comes through clearly in The Illustrated Guide to Snowboarding. I'd recommend it as a reference to the professional instructor, as well as a how-to for the avid snowboarder and those who wish to be." -- J. Randy Price Member of the PSIA-AASI national demonstration team "As a professional athlete and instructor, working with Kevin and reading his book helped my riding immensely. One of Kevin's principles is straightforward and perfectly applicable for snowboarding, climbing or just about any sport--your mind leads and your body follows. It works!" -- Robyn Ebersfield 4-time World Cup rock climbing champion "Never in my thirty-three years of pioneering, shaping and defining the sport of snowboarding was there ever access to material explaining the technical aspects of riding in such an easy to understand manner. . . . This 'encyclopedia' of snowboarding how-to belongs on the shelf of every ski area, snowboard park and bookstore in the snowbelt." -- Paul Graves

Customer Reviews
Excellent book for all snowboarders
THis book is superb, I am on oldie snowboarder still struggling to get it right, I had previously read Lowell Hart's book and thought it good but this surpasses it big time! I particularly liked, the illustrations, the tips from pro riders, the information on stance and riding position, the exercises to help ones style, the importance of positive attitude
The only problem is remembering all the good advice when you are on your board!! IF you are into snowboarding you need this book!!
An essential book for snowboarders
What an incredible book! I'm new to snoboarding and after taking an intensive course thought I'd read up on the subject while away from the slopes.
I'm barely a third of the way through and I've already learnt a huge amount. It's highly readable, the illustrations liven and support the text and the author projects knowledge and enthusiasm without resorting to being dry and technical or smug.
The most immediate thing is the book crams a wealth of material not just on the actual technical issues of riding. Mental and physical preparation, relaxation, the physics of snowboarding, techniques, styles, equipment, background history, the whole package all provided in a concise and light-hearted book that should appeal to newbies and veterans alike.
Ryan's text is supported by small snippets from other snowboarders which broaden the experiences and information offered.
To round off, the book provides a glossary of terms and there's a list of books, magazines, organisations and equipment providers in the back - though, inevitably, they're biased towards the USA.
Highly recommended.
New to Snowboarding? Read this! All u need to know!
After reading the useful reviews, I bought this book after taking a couple of lessons. Always was into skiing, but apprehensive towards snowboarding. This book let me know all the answers to the questions I felt were going to be too stupid to ask, like equipment. What to look for in your lessons, how does the falling leaf pattern help, etc. etc. I've been snowboarding for six months now and I still read it because it stops me from forming bad habits and helps me go over things again and again. Plus, the cool thing is the author is so laid back, I feel a lot more relaxed being a 25-year-old beginner getting made fun of on the slopes by a bunch of pre-teens for falling off a poma lift. Whenever I'm discouraged, I reach for this and read it like a bible. You should too.
