Another Great Edition From Russel Ash
Just received this latest edition of the long running 'Top 10 of Everything' series, and as always its nicely produced, laid out and thoroughly researched.
There is a good 'now and then' comparison feature, in which 2008 is compared with 1988 to see how our world is changing and evolving. For example 20 years ago no countries average life expectancy hit the 80 year mark. Now ALL the top 10 do.
The facts and figures are immense, and Ash's work is as exhaustive as ever. Every few pages you are left with a 'Wow! I never knew that' moment.
HOWEVER I must criticise the publishers and general retailers with this series. They always seem to market it as a book for children and young teenagers, and a 'fun fact' book, but it is more in depth than this. Of course there is the usual fodder about Top goalscorers, and largest dinosaurs etc., but there are some truly sobering statistics that adults will appreciate and get an indication of the worlds issues (HIV rates, rates of deforestation, gun crime etc.)
Yes it's a good kids book, but it truly is for all ages. On a side note it's also a good investment if like me you compile/participate in pub quizzes. Another great addition to the series, and ideal present.
Brilliant read for kids and adults
This is a great book for children and adults alike, some really interesting facts thatyou may never even have thought of.
top 10
Being a quizmaster at the local pub,i found the top 10 of everything an invaluable tool in submitting questions for the quiz.
