Barely enough to get you started
To its credit I found this book to be ordered in a logical fashion, with plenty of nice clear screen shots. It's also concise and easy to read. I read it from cover to cover in a couple of hours. Trouble is, it's so concise it neglects to tell you a lot of the things you really want to know!

Much of the book follows a rather mechanical format of brief "explanations" for various photoshop functions. It goes something like this:

"How to Use Function A: 1) Select Function A from menu. 2) Choose which options X and Y you want [nice picture of screen shot] 3) Click OK."

Trouble is, this book doesn't say much about when best to use Function A, what options X and Y really do and, most infuriatingly, completely fails to mention option Z, which you've been wondering about all day!

About 90% of the information in this book I had pretty much figured out myself after a few days of playing around with the software. The book book did clarify a few things for me but it failed to answer soooo many questions.
