Product Description

Full of detailed construction drawings, this book covers cut roofs, bolted truss roofs, trussed rafter roofs, trimmed openings and ventilation.

A major section deals with loft to attic room conversions, giving guidance on planning procedures, as well as dealing with structural matters and specifying conversion work.

The Fourth Edition features a new chapter covering the growing number of engineered timber components available in the house building industry. The use of I beams and roof cassettes is detailed for roof and room–in–the–roof construction. The text has been fully updated to current standards and features additional detailed construction drawings. The chapters on attic conversion and construction have been expanded and a new attic conversion decision flow chart added.

The book will prove invaluable to architects, house builders, roof carpenters, building control officers, trussed rafter manufacturers and students of building technology.

Customer Reviews

An informative resource.4
Overall a good introduction to the subject, but if you are looking for a DIY guide to loft conversion, then look elsewhere. This book is packed with instructive diagrams throughout and gives a thorough overview of roof construction past and present. The only thing I feel could improve this book is a more thorough treatment of the loft conversion section.

A comprehensive guide4
I think this book is more suitable for the professional and student rather than homeowner. The reason I say this is that one could become bogged down in the intricacies of roof work and the illustrations provided are diagrams only no photos. But as a roof construction manual this is pretty good particularly from a truss roof point of view.

You will find in detail : Traditional cut roof construction, bolted truss roof construction, construction of trussed rafter roofs, truss plate systems, roof construction detailing, loft conversions, obligations and solutions. Its a fairly comprehensive view of roofing systems but good value for money.
