Armed Response tells the gripping and often alarming story of SO19, the Armed Response Unit of the Met, and the Trojans within SO19 - the armed response vehicles permanently on patrol. Driven by the need for experience armed officers to be on the scene within minutes, the men and women of SO19 are called upon to stare death in the face as a matter of routine. This fully revised and updated edition, including a new chapter on the London terrorist attacks and their aftermath, provides a vivid and extraordinary account of the work these brave men and women undertake.

From the Author
I am complimented that there are readers who enjoyed 'The Trojan Files' to such an extent that they wish to read more. It was a very emotional book to write. Equally I am disappointed that some feel misled by the re-publication as 'Armed Response'. It is now further released as such with added chapters and containing fresh material. It is worth noting that authors write but that it is publishers that publish! I hope the revised version will be enjoyed by many new readers. Please note the reviews on all versions and titles. I hope to have new books available soon.
Customer Reviews
Same as the Trojan Files!
I read the trojan files around a year ago, and really enjoyed it, so when I popped onto Amazon the other day and spotted a new book by Roger Gray I snapped it up straight away. It was only a day later when I saw another persons review that I realised that I had infact bought the Trojan Files with a different cover. I was really disappointed, and have just sent it back!
Two thumbs firmly up!
Not long ago, a next-door-but-one neighbour of mine was cautioned for discharging a shotgun in his back garden. The response speed of the police ARVs and the cool competence with which they did their job greatly impressed me, and I became interested in finding out more about armed police work and the armed response units in general.
I found Roger Gray’s book to be not only truly gripping in its approach and its rich store of anecdotes taken from the author’s own experience in the field, but also hugely informative and a very thorough guide to both the history and the current state of the armed police force as a whole, particularly in the case of the new material on the London July bombings and the “chair-leg shotgun” misadventure.
Mr Gray is clearly not just a very accomplished storyteller but also an historian of considerable merit; what he has produced is both a very solid piece of modern history and a truly entertaining read. Two thumbs firmly up!
