Customer Reviews

a mixed bag4
This as the description indicates is an anthology.Essays by different authors on many aspects of Gainsborough Studios. It is not a narrative story by one author so the results are mixed. The majority of the essays are entertaining and informative. However there are a couple of chapters which for want of a better expression are quite barmy. The one which goes into the sexual implications of Arthur Askey gave me a bigger laugh than i ever got from any of Askey's films. There is also at the end a useful appendix from Dennis Gifford containing details of all films made by the studio betwen 1924 and 1950.So despite the odd glitch i found this to be extremely interesting and worth a read.
