The Victoria and Albert Museum Diary 2010 celebrates dress - from the bright silks of the Maharajas to the intricately patterned Japanese kimono. Focusing on garments from the collections at the V&A, this is a sumptuous and colourful representation of dress and the people who wore it. Details of fastenings, necklines, cuffs, hemlines and fringes create a visual feast of textures, patterns and craftsmanship. Images of outfits (some shown in detail) as well as accessories such as hats, shoes and fans are included, plus photographs, paintings and illustrations showing the men and women who wore them. Week to view with all religious and national holidays included. Also has a ribbon marker and a pocket on the inside front cover.

A beautiful diary featuring Asian clothing and jewellery from the V&A's collection
This is an attractive desk diary which features clothing, footwear, headgear, jewellery, paintings and photographs from the Victoria & Albert museum's Asian collections. The countries represented include India, China, Japan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Korea and Burma (particularly the first three). Almost all of the illustrations are in full colour, apart from a few vintage photographs. The pages which feature clothing or clothing detail (as the cover does) are especially stunning with wonderful, vibrant colours. I'd say these account for almost half of the illustrations.
You should be aware this diary is NOT hardcover as described above - the V&A stopped that after 2007. Rather it's a kind of half-paperback/half-hardback hybrid, featuring a stiff cardboard cover that still has some flex. The layout is the same as in previous years. Each double page spread covers one week, with a blank space for each day (the size varies depending on the illustrations for that page but is either 9cm x 4.5cm, 17cm x 2.6cm or 17cm x 4.5cm). There are 2010 and 2011 calendars up front, an integrated bookmark, a storage pocket at the back and two blank pages at the end of the diary for notes. There is also a list of forthcoming exhibitions scheduled at the V&A museum from Sept 2009 to Jan 2011.
This is a classy and attractive desk diary. It would be a particularly suitable gift for anyone interested in costume design or fabrics. I buy the V&A diary every year and I think this edition is the nicest for a while. It doesn't have a lot of space and if you have a lot of appointments to keep track of or notes to make, it's probably not suitable. I use it as a brief diary of what I did each day and it allows me to write 3-4 sentences per day.
