Product Description

London Pub Reviews is a collection of forty four fictional reviews of London Pubs. The stories themselves are written like pub reviews, and are all set within real London pubs. However, due to the very odd behaviour of the reviewer, each review ends in a slightly disastrous way.

About the Author
Paul Ewen was born and raised in New Zealand. Although wanting to follow the Kiwi tradition of working in English pubs, he was thwarted by a complete and utter lack of social skills, forcing him to write about them instead. He now lives in South London.

Customer Reviews

The best guide to pubs I've ever come across!5
Where to start? This is an absolute gem of a book! Yes, the reviews start as you'd expect and then get a little bit surreal - but VERY, VERY funny! However, there's much more to it than just that: it's also the best guide to pubs in London I've ever come across.

The pubs reviewed are all very well chosen - a lot I've been to and completely agree with their inclusion and there's no doubt of Paul's love of the 'good' English pub. Further, through his surreal 'experiences' in these pubs you get the 'real' feel of the pubs in question; their actual 'character' transcends the pages, not staid facts and figures - no other guide comes anywhere near to this evocation of the 'pub'.

His surreal - Don Quixote-esque - experiences are astounding (and not repetitive at all). So funny! Brilliantly written, very clever, a great antidote to age and a tonic to the loss of your imagination about the world around you.

This book should be more widely available. I read it in a day (three days ago) and have already been dipping back into it for memorable reviews to chuckle at and pubs to visit. Definitely a work of comic genius! This is a special book.

Definitely NOT a pub guide but you should own a copy....5
This is an absolute gem of a book. In order not to finish it too quickly, I rationed myself to only reading when I myself was firmly ensconced in a pub corner with a pint at hand.
Paul Ewen's pub reviews usually start out with the best of intentions and we occasionally snatch small details of the pub's history, decor or the various ales on offer before the aforementioned beverages take effect and Paul's writings assume a surreal and manic direction. This is what the mumbling, twitching man in the corner was furiously scribbling onto his beer mat. Try not to catch his eye.....

I bet he drinks Carling Black label...5
This is not a conventional review of London Pubs. It does not tell you much about the quality of the beer to be quite honest.

It is very, very funny, acutely surreal and produces belly laughs. This kind of writing needs to be cherished.
