Customer Reviews
The Greatness of Joe Strummer.
"Let's Rock Again" is worth watching on several levels. First, the video provides a first-hand account of the formation of Joe Strummer's final project, The Mescaleros. From the lips of Joe and the rest of the band, you learn the "where", "why" and "how" of Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros. For those who never had the opportunity to witness the band live, the video provides some excellent concert footage that is testimony both to Joe's own musical brilliance as well as the musicianship of his supporting cast.
Perhaps more meaningful is the insight to the man himself that the video provides. What comes through most is Joe's essential honesty, integrity and humility. Despite Joe Strummer's status as the frontman for one of Rock's most influential and enduring bands, Joe never lost sight of the work it took to obtain that status nor the fleeting nature of fame.
In discussing the genesis of The Mescaleros project, Joe talks about the rise and fall of The Clash as well as the rise, fall and rebirth of Joe Strummer. The common theme is Joe's dedication to the music and to his fans. This is most evident in the video as Joe literally 'pounds the pavement' in Atlantic City to promote his new band, meeting people on the street, handing out flyers true to the spirit of the revolutionary that Joe always was.
In a world with an excess of poseurs and increasingly short on originality, this video pays tribute to a legendary peformer and reminds us of why Joe Strummer remains sadly missed. Rest in peace, Joe.
