Bait is placed on the treadle which is raised when the trap is set, the rat has to touch the treadle to reach the bait triggering the trap.

This rat trap is based on the Little Nipper Mouse Trap that has been manufactured in the UK to almost the same design since 1897.

Experience suggests that cheese, bacon or fish make very effective baits. As rats are very suspicious creatures and wary of any new objects in their environment, it is a good idea to place the trap in position with the treadle ideally at right angles to a wall and leave it unset for a few days before setting and baiting it.

Placing the traps behind furniture keeps them out of reach of pets or children.

When a rat is caught simply hold the trap over a bin, lift the wire square and the dead rat will fall out. Then rebait and reset the trap and, of course, wash your hands.
