Synopsis
Prolific director Bryan Singer takes a turn towards horror as the producer of this Halloween shocker directed by X2 and SUPERMAN RETURNS screenwriter Mike Dougherty. With four interwoven tales concerning a high-school principal who moonlights as a vicious serial killer, a college-age virgin who's saving herself for that special someone, a woman whose hatred of Halloween is only exceeded by her husband's love of the mischievous holiday, and a callous group of teens who carry out an unforgivably cruel prank, this fall frightener mixes Tarantino-style storytelling with the kind of chills that can only occur on the darkest day of the year. Brian Cox, Anna Paquin, Dylan Baker, and Leslie Bibb all star in a Halloween treat that's sure to deliver a few nasty tricks.

All Treat, No Trick
I absolutely loved this film. The concept is out of the 80s but created with the benefits of modern movie making and supported by a decent budget and wonderfully quirky script. It is Creepshow-esque, but far better. The movie is structured around four stories, but rather than being standalone the tales are finely interwoven to dramatic effect. Brian Cox gives another terrific performance as the Halloween equivalent of Scrooge and the supporting cast all hold their own. A word of caution though: don't buy this if you want a horror to scare you - Trick R Treat is not that kind of horror. Sure, there are some creepy moments and some gore but it falls more into the fun horror category (again, like many horror movies of the 80s) which is quite refreshing from the very intense and gritty horror of recent years.
Trick r Treat - I wouldn't say SCARY!!!
Well after reading lots of reviews and seeing the Trailer, I had to buy this, so got it on Saturday 31st October, to watch it on Halloween. Very short film not on long, but also the film didn't seem to be Scary, and it was different storys, wierd in some parts. Amazon have rated it 18, but its actually a 15. I've also bought another great Film what was released same day as this one "Drag me to Hell" now if you want a good Creepy film what "makes you jump" get "Drag me to hell" its a much better film. but apart from that, TRICK R TREAT is worth a watch it does have great acting and some great scenes but its not HORROR...
im rating this film 4 stars because the Acting and effects are great. but the Story is well mixed up lol
Believe the hype - a Halloween classic for future generations
I was a bit sceptical that this could live up to the amazing word-of-mouth this film has been receiving after showings at festivals for the last couple of years.
It lives up to them and more.
Don't let the fact that it's gone straight to DVD put you off - this is one of the best American horror films of the decade. Totally old school, it feels like the kind of film we saw when we were kids in the 80s and fell in love with. Scary enough to be taken seriously by horror geeks and gory enough to be guffawed through by 12 year olds during a sleepover, it could easily have come from the Amblin golden age of 1984-88. The way Gremlins nailed the Christmas season, this does the same for Halloween.
I honestly think it's a Halloween classic that will be watched by generations to come. It's really that good.
When you consider that this has been in the can for a couple of years and Warner is unwilling to give it a cinema release yet at the same time dross like Saw 12 keeps getting greenlit, you have to despair at the current state of Hollywood!
