Instantly Comfortable5
Wore them around the house (pre-dirt!) to get them a little broken in but absolutely no need whatsoever. First walk in them of 15Km and they were supportive and comfortable, without being too hot, for every step. Time will tell how hard wearing they are but they look and feel strong.

Superb 3 season boots5
The explorer trek retails widely at about £90 so I saved about £20 when I purchased from Amazon. I have used an earlier version of the boot for five years and although designed for three seasons wear I sometimes used it during the winter when the terrain was not too rough and stoney. The boot is made of gore-tex and suede. It's a pain to keep clean but brilliantly efficient. In Fenruary this year I slipped into a a fast flowing stream which reached to my knees. My gaiters prevented any water getting in through the boots cuffs but the boot itself did not admit any water at all. Amazing. Others will have commented that the boot is wonderfully comfortable from the 'off'. It is but...I found the footbed of both the old and new version to give me insufficient support for a whole day on demanding ground and relaced it with the expensive but brilliant Superfeet ones. The one big drawback of the old boot was that the sole was not very 'sticky': downhill slopes on rocky paths needed a lot of care. The new boot has a differently cleated sole and so far seems to cling to sloping rocks very effectively. The boot is a good compromise between support and weight. The cuff is moderately high but very well padded and so the ankle feels very well supported but with sufficient flex to be comfortable. The boot feels light and in a few minutes you simply forget that you have them on. I have used (the old version) in very hot conditions but my feet could breath. I haven't been able to check how the new version operates in temperatures of 30+ degrees but since the construction of the uppers are the same they should do well. The fitting is a little on the wide side - which suits me just fine, I find most boots and shoes a bit too narrow for the length I need. If your foot is slim then a pair of lining socks will solve the problem. In short these are superb 3 seasons boots.
