Top boot for the UK walker
A very good light, solid boot that's a very comfortable fit. Although its not an Alpine type boot its ideal to suit all types of UK terrain, incorporates the support of other more expensive boots, and has more extra padding around the ankle to make it user friendly. Deemed to be waterproof, as yet not tested, but being an all leather boot gives it a chance. I have spent a couple of good days walking on Scottish moorland with no problems. Ideal for people with wide feet, and doesn't need a lot of breaking in. A very good hill boot that will give years of service. I will buy KSB everytime, they always seem to get the basics right.
Value for money and can take a beating
Bought a pair of these for a weeks November walking on the Isle of Skye (below the snowline).
Treated them with G wax before the trip and once again midway through the week, not a leak or blister, even when stomping through hour after hour of sodden peat bogs, bracken, ferns, mud, deep puddles and driving rain. In extreme boggyness a decent pair of gaiters as part of your kit stops the overflow of slurpy water from getting in when you sink to knee level in goo.
Not the toughest leather, but are lightweight compared to some, my Scarpa SL M3's would have been too heavy duty as we stayed under the snow line. Plenty of flex in the Vibram sole and plenty of support on the ankle as well, the insole is pretty well specced and comfy day after day with no sagging or collapse, they felt good every day.
Grip is good on wet grass, sloppy joe mud, just watch wet rocks as in all boots.
So, if you don't need crampon support, and want a great pair of boots for the price of a decent pair of insoles, get these. I wore two pairs of Karrimor trail socks and did not get a single sore toe, blister or feedling of dread picking them up to walk for the day.
Got the same style for my girlfriend, she also had warm toasty feet all week with no blisters or sore bits, she is used to Salamons at three times this price and they were as durable and comfy.
Finally, we did not break the boots in, they are ready to go as long as you give them a coat of G wax or similar to get them flexible.
Reccomended.
Nice boots
Bought them for myself for Xmas on behalf of my wife so I have only tried them on to check the fit. From this short trial I can say that they are well made, look good and feel very comfortable.
