Customer Reviews

Very impressed5
After looking at many of the reviews for this breadmaker and a smaller fastbake machine on Amazon, I decided to take the plunge and purchase this machine.
I was very wary given some of the earlier reviews people had left saying that it was a big disappointment and that you had to do a lot of special things to keep it in good working order, but others said it was great and I liked the look and specifications so I decided to buy it anyway.

The machine is a little taller than I thought it would be but that is no reflection on its performance.

I have made many loafs of varying sizes and styles and have only had one loaf where the paddle did not drop down. On reflection, this was all my own fault because I did not enter the ingredients in the order stated on the recipe (was too distracted with kids running about the kitchen!).

The recipes are simple to follow and it takes no more than 3 minutes to put it all together and start it cooking.

The drop down paddle is a bonus as it does only leave a very small hole at the end of the bread. The pan size is just right for our family and makes a decent sized loaf.

I've found that all I need to do after I have turned the loaf out is fill the pan with warm water and let it soak for a while. This makes the paddle easy to remove and clean.

When I make a new loaf I just make sure that I pour the oil onto the paddle and hinge and it moves freely and efficiently.

Great functioning and looking machine and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone! Just follow the instructions that come with the machine and you'll do fine.

Good bread machine but watch for the pitfalls3
I would have given this breadmaker 4 or 4½ stars but for a couple of niggles.

This was our first breadmaker and we found it a joy to use. We would use it every day, and it baked what we thought was excellent bread, and dough for rolls or French sticks (or "baguettes", if you really must). We loved the fold-down paddle which ensures a smaller hole is left in the bottom of the loaf than sme other models.

After about a month, however, the machine stopped and smoke started to issue from the ventilation holes as it began to overheat. We returned the breadmaker for a refund and bought an identical one from Amazon. This worked fine for a while but after a few months, the paddle and spindle began to get stiff. About 11 months after we bought the machine, the spindle seized completely. Not even a pair of vise-grips would turn the damned thing. Luckily, we could remove the paddle itself.

I called Amazon and they said we had to return the whole machine at our own expense although I got them to agree to contribute an undefined part of the postage. Looking for a way to avoid shipping a heavy item, I rang the manufacturers (number in the manual) and they immediately dispatched a new baking pan completely free of charge.

Please, do buy this breadmaker but you MUST pay special attention to cleaning the paddle around the hinged joint, and the inside of the post. Every few sessions, pop the paddle into a cup of warm sunflower oil and let it sit there to keep the joint nice and free. You can use the oil in your next loaf.

Great Value Breadmaker5
I was very wary before purchasing this breadmaker as I had read varying reviews of it. However, the stainless steel finish and an excellent price from (.....)- I'm so glad it did!

This is an excellent breadmaker for the money. It makes fantastic bread and looks great as well.

I've always stuck to 1.5lb loaves as I found that the bread rises so much, with the 2lb loaf it rose up to the window and then collapsed. However this may be due to the fact that I tend to use less salt in than recommended by the recipes. A well risen 1.5lb loaf is plenty for all the family anyway.

The drop down paddle seems to work successfully, however I have found that I have to dig it out of the bread occasionally - but this isn't too much hassle. If the paddle stays in the pan, a quick soak in hot water removes it easily.

A lot of my family and friends have the far more expensive Panasonic breadmaker and to be honest I think the bread from my breadmaker is just as good.
