Manufacturer's Description
Gaggia is the best known Italian manufacturer of coffee machines for professional and household use and its name is synonymous with tradition and reliability the world over. The company was set up in 1947 by Achille Gaggia, the man to whom we are indebted for the success of espresso coffee all over the world. It was he who on September 5th 1938 filed a patent no 365726 with which modern steam-free coffee machines may be said to have been born. In 1977 Gaggia began producing coffee machines for the home, launching the Baby Gaggia, which to this day is considered to be the ideal family coffee maker. The designs and technological advances have changed the way the machines look and work but the objective of quality, reliability and the passion for the right espresso everytime has remained throughout Gaggia's history and this is what makes Gaggia legendary.
There's nothing like a good cup of coffee to lend a little extra to ones daily life. Our Classic Coffee model embodies this by combining advanced technology and classic form, underscored by the durability and elegance of its materials. Can take coffee pods or loose coffee.

Best home espresso machine I have ever had
I have had 4 different espresso machines, this is the latest and greatest, it is one of my favourite possessions and I think it is absolutely superb. The machine has a classic/traditional look which I love. The Gaggia logo badge finishes the machines look well. I have the polished chrome plated version of this machine. It has big solid illuminated switches which are clearly laid out on the front of the machine.
In using this machine I notice the high quality of the components and the machine overall. The chrome plated solid brass filter holder has a reassuringly heavy feel to it. Being solid brass the components hold the heat very well. There are 2 stainless steel filters to use for different strengths/amounts of espresso. It has a large removable water tank which holds 2.1 litres of water.
This machine has a powerful 17.5 bar pump with a solenoid valve which makes a truly great espresso with a good thick cremá. You can switch the machine to the steam mode and after a short delay the steam ready light will illuminate. It will then give a powerful amount of steam which steams and froths milk very quickly and gives great consistent results every time for cappuccino or latté. The cup warming tray on top of the machine is useful and easily accommodates 5 espresso cups.
I use the machine several times every day and it performs flawlessly every time. It really is built to last. I had a Krups espresso machine previously which worked fine for about 16 months until some of the plastic parts cracked. All of the parts which receive use on this machine are heavy duty.
I would recommend this machine to anyone wanting the best quality espresso and cappuccino in the home with an equally impressive machine to match.
Simply Excellent. The Dualit of Espresso Machines.
I've owned a Gaggia Classic for five months now, and so far so good. Visually the machine looks wonderful - it is compact and boxy (and yet quite large for the kitchen counter top, like a food mixer) but very functional in design. I bought the stainless steel model (i.e. chrome), and it makes an ideal companion sitting adjacent to my shiny 4 slot Dualit toaster.
In terms of build quality, the machine is solid and robust, and has not exhibited any problems at all. The water reservoir is capacious, and only needs refilling on an occasional basis (but that depends upon how much coffee you drink). As for the quality of the coffee that the Gaggia makes, it is simply excellent. My "recipe" involves buying Fairtrade organic coffee from Whitards, and spring water. The Gaggia produces a strong coffee, and a substantial crema. Steaming milk is quick and simple if that is your thing, but I prefer my coffee black. Once diluted, the resulting brew is easily on a par with an Americano from either of my local coffee shops (Costa Coffee and Cafe Nero), but at a fraction of the cost.
There have been two unexpected, but rather pleasant, side effects of the Gaggia. The first is that I drink more coffee than before - at least a double espresso (as an Americano) each day. The second is that making coffee has now become a ritual. I never thought that I would enjoy it so much, but now I am my own barista! And the smell of freshly brewing coffee simply cannot be beaten. I've even bought little accessories such as stainless steel jugs to catch the coffee in, a milk jug and a cute little compactor to compress the coffee powder with!
OK, so the Gaggia Classic is expensive (and the chrome model more so), but let's be realistic (we can't all own a Vibiemme Domobar!). But... if you like your coffee, and appreciate a well built, yet beautiful appliance, you will love this machine. Think of this as the Dualit Toaster of Espresso machines, and you will get the idea.
Pretty much Faultless
An amazing little machine which oozes style and functionality. Gimmick-free so does exactly what it is supposed to do and no more...and that is make great coffee. Requires no previous experience, just a healthy fascination with beautiful things for the kitchen, making beautiful noises. Buy, steam, froth, pour, drink and be happy!
