Amazon.co.uk Review
There never was a video game of Casino Royale, but now Activision is making up for lost time with a title that incorporates both Casino Royale and its immediate sequel, Quantum of Solace. It’s primarily a first-person shooter, but it does switch to an over-the-shoulder view when hiding under cover or taking part in interactive cut scenes.
Daniel Craig is a big games fan and has taken a personal interest in the game |
Almost everything in the game can be destroyed or damaged |
Stealth is just as important as gunplay when you’re James Bond |
Close combat switches out of first person view for a more cinematic effect |
Just like the Bond movies, the game offers a mixture of action and stealth, with the chance to take down enemies instantly if they don’t see you. You’ll almost always be outgunned, but you’re given clues as to which strategy to take by the changing music.
Bond's aresenal has been slimmed down in the new films, so it makes sense that there aren’t many gadgets in the game. There is an online multiplayer mode that pays homage to past classic Bond games such as GoldenEye 007. Which should hopefully make Bond’s video game comeback as successful as his cinematic return.
Key Features- You only live twice: Recreate the stories of both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace in one game, including deleted scenes and new side missions.
- Duty calls: The game uses the same graphics technology as Call of Duty 4, including bullets that realistically pass through wood and other materials.
- You know his name: The game features not only the voice and likeness of Daniel Craig, but also Judi Dench as M, Mathieu Amalric as villain Dominic Greene, and Olga Kruylenko as Camille.
- Shaken not stirred: A mix of first- and third-person viewpoints allows for both shooter action and tense stealth-based exploration.
- Licence to kill: Battle friends in the online mode in a wide range of game types.
One of publisher Activision’s biggest internal studios, Treyarch have worked on many of the company’s best known titles, from the Spider-Man movie tie-ins and spin-offs to several of the Call of Duty sequels and, of course, the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace.

Best Bond Since Goldeneye, Shame No Split Screen!
I must say this is one of the best bond games i have played since "Goldeneye" on the Nindtendo 64 I have been waiting a long while for a Bond game to come close to the great Goldeneye, i have to say this does come close the graphics are by far great, the gameplay is well designed with a mixture of both FPV "First Person View" and Third Person View.
and with help of the COD4 "Call of Duty 4" Engine which was the best FPS on the Next Gen consoles, this was set out to be a great bond game and basic on the lastest film it has parts from both the lastest movie Quanntum of Solace and Casino Royale, the game does well with a wide range of guns and a new cover system similar to one you my have seen in games like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune with new burtal moves to push a enemy of a building or to engage in classic bond style fight is all good fun and mixing it up a little if you get bored of the 22 great weapons that can have add-ons like a laser slight and scope added to them, the overall gameplay and type of missions you with face are very good and well desinged and look so much like the locations in the Films.
The only down side with it and others would agree is the lank of a split screen mode which made the bond games so much fun with games like goldeneye and nightfire being the two best this is a little bit of a downer for me I was hoping to play this with some mates like did with over bond games but there didn't inclue it with this title which seeing people's reactions i think next time they will have to inclue it for there sake lol, but they still is Online mode and i am yet to see if it is sucess like COD4 online but overall this is a must for any fan's of the games and if this is your first bond game your sure to love it.
I would give this game 8/10 as it is the best bond game i played in a long time and great effort for activision on the next gen consoles and i am sure they be many more bond games to come and but a split screen in this time activision lol.
I hope this review has been a help to you.
Call of Duty : 007
With the success of the Craig era, Quantum of Solace had more promise than any of the EA releases. Unlikely to match GoldenEye, but with the Modern Warfare engine acting as the foundation, quality was virtually guaranteed.
For the majority, single player delivers and recreates the films well, yet other times it feels like nothing more than an onslaught of enemies, wave after wave of mindless cannon fodder. With none of the subtlety of the films, attempts to variate gameplay are tried and tested. Hand to hand combat works well, but QTE sections are about as average as they come. Even the hacking mini-game lacks a sense of achievement. Levels are overly linear. But trophies for completing the game on different settings, and meeting level specific criteria, means they have some longevity. Levels are short, but for the majority, well paced. Plentiful checkpoints ensure no section lasts longer than it should. Yet some stages do have the tendency to end rather suddenly.
There are moments, one during the Opera House, where photographing the targets would have provided a welcome break from shooting. Instead, its done via cut-scene, which feels rushed. Many levels also take liberties with the storyline, but as far as movie licences go, its execution is above average.
With GoldenEyes impact all those generations ago, it would seem logical for Treyarch to include a split-screen multiplayer mode. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift managed this recently, and why should multiplayer be limited to online play? Unfortunately there's no such luck here.
Instead its remarkably like Call of Duty, with similar 'EVERYTHING'. This must have sounded foolproof on paper, but it feels like a botched job. World at Wars blatant copying of Modern Warfare can be forgiven to a point, they are the same franchise after all. Here it just feels lazy, and gives Quantum of Solace no identity of its own. Yet it remains fun to play.
Graphics are functional, but exceptionally bland in places. Big on-screen button prompts dont help the aesthetics either. Its difficult to believe this is the Modern Warfare engine at times. Non interactive scenery is much prettier however, as the Train and Casino Royale levels prove. Yet Daniel Craig is one of the few things actually rendered well in-game. When using cover, the view switches to a 3rd person perspective, working far better than anything else. In fact, its the only area where Quantum of Soalce manages to differentiate itself.
The finest Bond game since GoldenEye, but is that really saying much?
For Bored Guys Only
This is written in the product description however I thought I should mention the single player is not only the `Quantum of Solace' film story but also the story from the `Casino Royale'. This is because the game would have been pitifully short if it had just been based on `Quantum of Solace', so there is a bit more to single player than you may think.
If you've seen the films you'll have noticed that there are a few boat chases, car chases and even a plane fight. Well don't expect to see any of that in this game, you're on foot all the way. The only time you'll see bond in a car is in a cut scene. I found this very disappointing when some of my favourite moments in the films involve bond madly driving some vehicle which is inevitably going to blow up at some stage.
I did very much enjoy the hand-to-hand combat system they use (which many games have picked up on) where you must tap a certain button, or bash at it as quickly as possible, in order to defeat the enemy.
Multiplayer is the same as usual. Battle people online, defuse bombs, blow up objectives etc... same as Goldeneye: Rogue Agent in my view; fun but nothing special.
I'm particularly satisfied that they managed to get the voices of the actors and that enemies take bullets far more realistically then in previous bond games however There's very little else to do other then pick up the odd mobile phone or shoot hundreds of rounds into an enemy (satisfying though it is).
All in all this game is lacking the real bond spirit especially without the ability to drive vehicles and did I mention no split screen, well I'm sure someone else has written something fascinating about that.
