Pupils and staff at HIVE are horrified to discover that Dr Nero has been captured by the forces of HOPE, the Hostile Operative Prosecution Executive, the world's newest and most ruthlessly efficient security force. Three months pass without any news of his fate, and Number One has decided to appoint a sinister new headmistress for the school, somebody that the pupils and staff had thought that they'd seen the last of. Meanwhile Otto is also struggling to cope with new abilities that are starting to manifest themselves; can he really be unconsciously interfacing with computers without physical contact? And if he is, what exactly do these new powers really mean? The only way to find Nero and the truth behind the lies is to escape HIVE. Otto must get out, and take the risks which come with being a rogue agent. Then he just has to break into MI6.

About the Author
Mark Walden spent ten years producing video games for a living before finally deciding that perhaps it was time to do some real work. With the bitter taste of rejection from the NASA astronaut training programme still in his mouth he decided (luckily) that maybe he should try and write a book instead. He is happily married (as is his wife, he hopes) and is the proud father of Megan. He is owned by Marge, his cat, who has provided invaluable assistance at every stage of the writing of both books.

Ending a little far fetched
This is the third book in this series and both myself and my 8 year old son have enjoyed reading them. Both of us enjoyed the way the book unravels slowly revealing details in one scene and then leaving you in suspense whilst returning to another situation describe earlier in the chapter. This book like the other two is very well written and leaves you wanting to read more after each chapter. The ending for me was a little far fetched however this certainly wouldn't stop me recommending the series to other children. We started the series when my son was 7 and he had had no problems following it. My 6 year old however is not interested preferring the secret seven.....now there's a blast from the past!
Escape Velcoity HIVE
A good book but jumos from scene to scene and can be difficult for those under 12 to follow. A great original story, I loved it, my boys enjoyed it but both said they got lost now and again as it jumped. I would suggest 13-19 due to the difficulty to follow, but children for 9-13 could understand the great plot and storyline.
Escape Velocity
This book is the third in an incredible series, and in my opinion, one of the best yet. It has a lot of action and revelations that will make you want to read faster and faster, and if you are like me, read it again and again. If you are not sure if you want to buy it, here are some details: this book was well planned for because the events in the previous books hinted what would be the main epiphany in this book. Make sure you read the first two, H.I.V.E. and The Overlord Protocol first. The series, as a whole, is about the adventures of Otto Malpense and his friends Wing, Laura, and Shelby. They are enrolled in a secret facility on an island called H.I.V.E., or the Higher Institute for Villainous Education. This school accepts the most (criminally) 'gifted' kids in the world. They are taught the secrets of the art of evil so that when they grow up, they will eventually become some of the world's most infamous leaders (or dictators). If you have already read this series, here is something that will not spoil anything but will add to your curiosity about this book. Escape Velocity reveals a lot about Otto's past. And it is almost definately not what you would think. Otto also changes in ways that even he does not understand. All in all, this book has secrets that you have been wondering about and a lot of information that leads to the next book, Dreadnought, and eventually Rogue, which is coming out May 3rd 2009 at this point. This is a series that you are not likely to forget.
