Great for medium to coarse grind
Bought this mainly to grind beans for my cafetiere. I bought one for home and I was so pleased with it I bought another to keep at my office. It is exremely well made and also nicely matches my stove-top moka pot. The top half (which contains the burr grinder) screws off the bottom half (which catches the ground coffee). You tip your desired amount of beans in the top and just turn the handle. Depending on how many beans you are grinding this can take between approx 15 to 60 seconds and can be quite hard work!! (but it's worth the effort compared to using 'pre-ground coffee'!!) You can easily adjust the grind setting to suit your requirements (fine to coarse). All the grinding componets come apart so that they can be washed and dried very easily. Make sure it is fully dry after washing before you re-use it. I prefer to grind my beans quite coarse for my cafetiere for which I think this grinder is ideal. It is worth mentioning that I decided NOT TO use this machine to grind beans for my espresso machine. I decided to purchase an high quality electric burr grinder to grind my espresso beans so that I could get them 'super fine'. You can try to grind beans fine with this hand grinder but I found that it is better suited for grinding the beans medium to coarse (so it is therefore ideal for cafetiere). If you want 'super fine' for espressso - go out and buy a good quality electric burr grinder. If you want a medium to coarse grind for cafetiere (or possibly a moka-pot), get one of these babies. What ever you do, DO NOT buy one of the cheap electric blade grinders. A GREAT PRODUCT - ""SO NICE, I BOUGHT IT TWICE"" :)
Good for the daily grind
I was looking for a hand grinder for coffee as I didn't want any more clutter plugged in round the kitchen.
I took ages trying to choose one that was robust and would be easy to clean and adjust
This little grinder meets all my criteria: It's very solid and feels like it will last, its grinds quite finely with little trouble and the screw in base fits very well and the whole thing has a solid well made feel.
I'm very happy with it and it was just what I was looking for.
MUCH better than my electric grinder
After a disastrous experience with an electric grinder received as a present (see other reviews) I was left with a load of beans and no grinder. If I had not had all of those beans I'd have gone back to just using ground coffee. I then bought a simple twin bladed electric thing but was not happy with it, there was no way to control the fineness of the grind. After hunting through loads and loads of reviews I liked the sound of this grinder and bought one. It has exceeded all my hopes and I'm now settled with a grinder I feel will last a lifetime.
As others have mentioned it is extremely robust and well made. It did not take me long to adjust the grind to my requirement (I use an Aeropress Coffee Maker)and there is something quite satisfying in grinding the beans by hand just when you need them.
One other very good point, the shape of the grinder makes it very easy to grip in use and the non-slip base is also a great help. All in all, a perfect 5 stars, and thanks to the original reviewers who pointed me to it.
