Manufacturer's Description
HEPA + Bactisafe: Root Cyclone technology captures microscopic particles, whilst the HEPA filter with Bactisafe screen traps and kills bacteria and mould on contact.

Telescope Reach: Quick release wand expands for instant cleaning so there are no awkward parts to assemble for high-reach jobs.

Root Cyclone Technology: A Dyson cyclone spins air at high speed. Dirt and dust are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin, not on filters or in bags. So unlike other machines, Dyson doesn't clog and lose suction, so it picks up more dirt.

Large debris channel: The additional front channel on the cleaner head means that larger dirt and debris are not 'snowploughed' across a smooth floor, so you can pick up larger pieces such as rice and nuts first time.

No running costs: The pre-motor filter removes particles down to 0.1 micron and is washable. The post-motor filter traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor. This filter never needs replacing.

Approved for allergy sufferers: DC14 Telescope Reach models have been approved by the British Allergy Foundation.

Instant stair cleaning: Extendable hose reaches to the top of the stairs.

Hygienic and quick to empty: No need to touch the dust - just push the trigger.

Car cleaning: For easier cleaning in confined areas the tools can be fitted directly to the end of the wand or the hose.

Motorised brushbar: All Dyson uprights have a motorised brushbar. This improves pick up on carpets by sweeping the dust and fibres trapped in the carpet pile into the constant Dyson airflow.

Anti-jam brush bar: To prevent belt breakage or gear damage, the brushbar disengages and makes a ratchet noise to warn when it is obstructed.

Auto carpet-height adjustment: Maintains constant contact with the floor to maximise dust pick-up.

Clear Bin: You can see how well the Dyson works, there are no bags to buy, you can always tell when it's full and it is easy to empty.

Dual handle: Lowered handle for easy carrying.

Edge cleaning whiskers: DC14's suction is channelled right to the edges of the cleaner head, unlike many uprights. Its specially-designed whiskers, angled to reach down between the skirting board and the floor, flick the dust from the edge into the airflow.

Dyson DC07/DC144
I've had a DC03 Clear, DC07 Standard and now a DC14 Allergy. The first thing to mention is Dysons do go wrong, but where they are different is that the Dyson customer service is excellent, the telephone number is printed on the machine - and one call generally solves the problem either by getting spare parts sent out or collect/return repair.
It is one item it could be worth getting extended warranty, because if it is under warranty , it will be repaired by Dyson.
Tips: avoid the clear plastic models , the plastic is much more brittle, I had several replacement handle/wands/sole plates under the 2 year warranty with my DC03 Clear. The DC07 has a lot fiddly bits which can break - the foot plate cover, the internal hose can split due to wear/n/tear, the valve pipe clips can break, but it is a powerful vacuum.
The advantage is that Dysons are built to have parts replaced as they wear out, sort of modular design, it is not often they are beyond repair and many spares are also available on well known auction site/ Dyson Website either new or secondhand. Secondhand one's have a good resale value if you decide to upgrade.

My Dyson DC14 is too new , but so far it seems the best model so far, great suction, better design. I've kept the DC07 for cleaning up after DIY.

Fantastic but still room for improvement4
This is my first Dyson and I have to say that I am really impressed. What I had trouble finding when I was researching a hoover to buy was a comparison chart. Unfortunately, I only bought the DC14 Allergy so I can't do a comparison between this and the Hoover H1 which is probably the closest competitor. I highly recommend emptying the cylinder every time before you use it. I never liked hoovering but now that I can see the amount of dirt I take out of the house every time I do it all the time! I've only found three big negative issues with the DC14 Allergy:

* An extremely loud ratchet noise when the beater catches a snag. I jump every time it happens. A better slip mechanism would be greatly appreciated.
* The hose isn't strong enough to support itself against the high level of suction. You absolutely must use an attachment on the hose end or it will catch on something and then compress instantly. This usually results in the Dyson being quickly toppled onto its side.
* If you don't turn the DC14 off and return it to the upright position, the suction goes through the attachment tube that is still attached to the base. This makes a bit of a whistling sound and will grab hold of any loose clothing you might be wearing.

Overall, I'd recommend it but there is still room for improvement in the world of vacuum cleaner design.

Don't think about it, do it.5
Dysons are expensive, there's no getting away from that, but they are still great value for money.

18 months ago: Being a bit tight I didn't want to pay Dyson money for a vacuum cleaner so I bought a Morphy Richards Bagless. It couldn't be that much worse surely! Well, the signs weren't good when i tested it brand new out of its box back to back with my mother's Dyson DC03. It didn't pick nearly as well as the Dyson. From that point onwards it was much the same, it didn't pick up well even on max suction and anything much above minimum suction it would overheat and shutdown after only 1-2 rooms.

Today - The DC14 All Floors arrived and I pressed it straight into service. Its got some nice features but the most important thing is it actually cleans, fantastically well infact. The carpets have NEVER been as clean.

What am I trying to say then - well, don't be tight like i was, I wasted £100 on rubbish before buying a Dyson. Just spend the cash, you won't regret it!
