Excellent book and well worth the wait!
So many long-awaited treats don't measure up to the anticipation -- this book from the people who publish Knitters' Magazine exceeded my expectations instead!!! The socks vary widely in style, complexity and color but almost every pattern made me say "I want to knit those socks!" In addition, because these socks were designed by people who are clearly in love with and experts in their craft, each pattern seems to hold the promise of a new technique or trick or approach to design that a knitter can investigate without the investment of time and money in a larger garment. There are socks which could be completed by a beginner with relatively little trouble although I think to really appreciate and enjoy most of the patterns it would help to have a little experience with knitting. All in all, I think the book is the best knitting book I've seen in a very long time, and is a great bargain at the price. It meets the very highest standards set by Knitters Magazine since its inception. I only wish it was published in hardcover, because I'm going to wear it out in a very short period of time!!!!
Another *must have* sock book
Clear pictures and instructions for a very wide variety of socks. From the simple to the wildly creative, almost too many to chose from. Heavy winter socks, lacy patterns, many colors, mostly texture, socks for kids, adults, babys, dolls, socks smaller than a postage stamp and socks made of licorice. I kid you not. In less than a month I have two pairs finished, a third underway, and I am already lining up the colors and wool for lots more. No wonder this book appears to have sold out its first printing already. Yes, you do need another sock book....trust me.
Sock knitters--prepare to be mesmerized!
I have spent all weekend poring over this book. It's lovely, and I'm so glad I finally decided that I DID need more sock patterns, after all. There are some truly unique and beautiful socks in this book, and I love the many clear color photographs. Most socks are shown both on feet and in detail shots. Clear instructions and nice little tidbits of information from the knitters who entered the contest. This book is definitely on its way to being one of my favorite knitting pattern books.
