Worth the wait!
First of all, the boots themselves. I had my heart set on the red, which I've only seen here on Amazon. By the time I had the money to order them, they were out of stock for a couple of months. Eventually, I ordered them, hoping the colour was as nice as the pictures... I needn't have worried. As I opened the box, I realized they are a gorgeous, deep inky red, lovely glossy finish and beautifully made. I cannot remember the last time I got this excited by a pair of boots. They are comfy to wear, and fit like a dream. And when on, they look amazing!! I was slightly concerned the red might look a little over-the-top or tarty, but it's a lovely shade that doesn't seem to look unbalanced when worn with just with black (I have a pair of brighter red shoes, and if I wear them by themselves, they just look odd :-/).
I am in love!
One of the reasons I like Fly boots is that they tend to be a narrower fit (on the calves) than you find in most high street brands, which have been getting progressively bigger over recent years, apparently aiming to fit the widest common denominator. Women with slimmer legs can seriously struggle to find something suitable (i.e. that doesn't make them look ridiculous in badly-fitted, ultra-wide boots that look like wellies). The circumference of my calves is about 35 cm, and I would say these boots fit me perfectly. If your legs are significantly bigger, they may start to pinch slightly.
I have a pair of Fly boots already, plus I've tried on a pair of Yules (they are next on my shopping list). On the feet, these are definitely coming up smaller. Normally, if I buy boots which are an 8/41*, there is room for socks, innersoles and maybe a pair of party feet... not with these. Fortunately, they are comfortable enough that the extra padding is unnecessary; however, if you normally fit an 8/41 perfectly, I'd recommend either trying them on in a shoe store, or considering the buying the 9 instead.
*For most of my adult life and UK 8 has been considered equivalent to a 41. For some reason, this has been changed in recent years to a 42... Fly have stuck with the 'older' sizing.
odd sizing?
I agree that these are lovely boots (soft leather, stunning colours, great design), but FLY sizing is odd at the best of times.
An Amazon 8 as listed here is a 41, which actually fits more like a 40! The leg too is narrow, and although the elastic does add stretch, it has the unfortunate side effect of giving a bulgy effect within and over the top of the boot.
I absolutley love FLY boots, but ordering from Amazon is going to be hit and miss on sizing unless you are TOTALLY sure on what size you need (and are getting - Amamzon should list the continental sizing too I feel).
Perhaps try on locally if you can first? Its a lot of money to get the wrong size and be disappointed.
Gorgeous boots !!!!
Excellent boots, picture does not do them justice, very comfortable to wear. I'm hooked on Fly London footwear now, I have Yoda sandals and they're the most comfortable sandals ever. Can't go wrong with this footwear for style and comfort.
