    Well Pleased5
I had been a big fan of Canon cameras till my last one an Ixus400 stopped working (error message E18).
So I now had the opportunity to delve into the market again.
After reading reviews of different products I took the the plunge and went for the Coolpix.
All I can say is it put my previous Canon to shame.
Shutter speed seems a lot quicker, Picture quality is spot on, Red eye reduction works very well plus Plenty of differnet presets.

Only extra option I went for was the 256MB SD Card.

Overall a very capable compact camera.
After owning this camera for just over a month I am very pleased.

    Not Bad4
Just bought this camera a week ago, so far i'm fairly pleased with it. The camera itself is a lot smaller than i had expected, especially compared with my old digital camera, which is great for keeping it with you all day without it bothering you too much. Setting it up is easy enough, just plug it in and the files appear straight away (with windows xp), i didn't even bother installing the software that came with it.

As for the picture quality, i was expecting it to be much better than my old Olympus 2mp camera but found that for viewing the photos on-screen it's only a minor improvement. However if like me you need large, high-resolution images to print out at A4 size or larger then i have noticed that the images are still sharp and look fine. The major problem i had with my old camera was that when taking pictures indoors without the flash there was a lot of noise in the images which was noticiable even when i print them out at 6x4 size. This camera is much better in these situations, especially when using a tripod and turning on the noise-reduction setting.

The camera comes with 15 different presets, some of which will be more useful than others, for different situations like a sunset, indoor scene etc. The manual focus could have been done better, if you're used to using an SLR camera you may find it a bit limited.

Overall, a good camera with loads of features and settings to play around with, just make sure you buy a decent sized SD card with it as it only comes with 12mb of memory (I bought a 256mb card which stores about 90 full-res images).

    Great camera for the price.5
I wanted a very compact, lightweight, quality digital camera, with a fast response time and a good video mode. This does it all. I've had the camera for only a few days now but am very pleased with the purchase.

The other camera I was interested in was the Canon IXUS 500 which is a good camera, but in my tests I have found the speed of response (autofocus and shutter) is faster with the Nikon than the canon. This was really important to me as when I take pictures of my son (18 months old) he doesn't hold cute faces for long! The video mode is better quality than the canon and will fill your memory card rather than being internally limited. The scene assist modes are better than the canon, and the grip feels nicer to me. I haven't done specific image tests but am very pleased with the image quality.
