Editorial Reviews
CD Description
With '80s hard rock all but dead and gone by the mid-'90s, Def Leppard rethought their approach and resurfaced with 1996's SLANG. The indulgences that rocketed Leppard to the top of the charts a decade earlier were stripped away as the veteran band attempted to stay in step with the new alternativerock acts.
While SLANG didn't hit the charts as hard as such past classics as PYROMANIA and HYSTERIA, it contained its share of highlights, namely "Work it Out", "All I Want isEverything", and "Blood Runs Cold". The group would revisittheir original sound with their next release, 1999's EUPHORIA.

Experimental Leppard but worth a listen
A move from the formula of Hysteria and Adrenalize, the Leps have moved away from collaboartion writing to more individual, experimental songs. This album will not be to everybody's tastes but hardcore Leps fans must give it a listen. There are a few too many slow songs but there are a few stand out tracks. Pearl of Euphoria is an epic worthy of the Leps, as is the Campbell penned Work It Out. The opening two of Truth? and Turn To Dust set the tone for the album. Not classic Def Leppard, but an album that has been neglected and seen as the album that might have killed off the Leps. I like it because it is different. Not the cliched rock that you expect from the Sheffield band. It may have been there undoing but I applauded them for having the balls at trying something new.
Out Of The Bin - Under The Pillow.
I like Def Leppard very much. I've been a fan since their early albums. When I listen to Def Leppard, I expect sort of music from their albums High 'N' Dry, Pyromania and Hysteria. After some years since Hysteria, they released Adrenalize and Retro Active in the early 90s and both albums were good. Waited another few more years to get SLANG. I just threw it away. No way. I hated this album so much. Complete change in the style. I thought all the 80s music is dead and so are the bands.
After many many years now, I found it somewhere in the corner and just played it once again. This time I liked it so much. It's been playing again and again in my iPod since. Yes it's still different but I would rate it as the Best as their other albums. Maybe I'm older, matured and changed. In the first go, anyone will throw it in a bin just like I did. And then after couple of times listen, you will keep it under your pillow and listen to it all night long.
In short, if you expect Def Leppard like the 80s, you will hate this album and the band. 'Boys ! What have you done ? You spoilt everything'. If you are ready for the change and wanna try it, go ahead. Take your time, take a deep breath, relax and push play. You may have to try it couple of times. Then you will say 'Thank you for the good music, boys !'
the next step
'slang' was a step in the wrong direction for many def leppard fans but to me it was a step into the future, since this album failed in chat success the leps have returned again to there roots a bit more, i love this album, for me i thought they wrote an album ahead of there time, this album shows how they have progresed. 'slang' the single for me was a 'pour some sugar on me' for the 90s, def leppard have never been a cool band to like, alot of people would class them as a really cheesy band, but this album has no cheese whatsoever, its a proper modern rock album, they havent tryed to sound like anyone there, i would have liked to have seen def lepard stick with this style a bit more, loads of samples and the production is just right, it isent over produced like alot of there albums. it has a very indian vibe.this album shows a mature side to def leppard, maybe not right for someone who just wants one album to see what there like, it could be my fav album.
