Synopsis
Be prepared to be scared. James Wan's directorial debut, written by and starring Leigh Whannell, is a violent, bloody, psychologically exhausting and exhilarating exercise in terror. Adam (Whannell) and Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes) are chained in a vile, disgusting bathroom, separated by a bloody corpse holding a gun and a tape recorder. They are each given a saw--the only obvious way out is to cut one of their feet off. A serial killer who specialises in torturing morally bereft strangers is playing a game with them: Gordon has less than eight hours to kill Adam or else the doctor's wife (Monica Potter) and daughter (Mackenzie Vega) will be murdered. As the two men engage in a battle of wits, alternately trying to help each other or secretly attempting to win the game, a series of flashbacks reveals the history of the madman and the pair of detectives (Danny Glover and Ken Leung) handling the case. Some of the torture scenes are excruciatingly horrible and hard to watch, a real treat for fans of the genre. Inspired by the work of David Lynch (BLUE VELVET, TWIN PEAKS) and Dario Argento (SUSPIRIA, INFERNO), Wan has created a scintillating suspense thriller that will have audiences continually shocked, repelled, frightened, and surprised, right up to the very last second (which Whannell has said was influenced by the endings of such films as THE USUAL SUSPECTS and THE SIXTH SENSE). The accompanying heavy metal soundtrack is appropriately scary as well.

Classic horror!4
Definitly one of a kind followed and ruined by more inferior sequels. It's about a serial killer who murders his victims, who don't appreciate life as he simply puts it. The film is centred around two potential victims who have to escape his captivity chained up in an abandoned bathroom.

I think it would have been eerier if they never made a sequel. The ending is unpredictable and I think poeple will lose sleep over this.

in response to all bad comments5
this is a reply to anyone who says it is bad, or the series is confusing. the 6 saw films are probably the best films i have ever seen. saw(the first one) is obviously the best because it is the first, so we are new to it, and it is one of the cleverest. saw 2,3,4,5 and 6 are not as good but still brilliant. whoever said its confusing, its supposed to be, its supposed to lead on to the next film, and the next etc. i have seen all of them and i want to see them all again, and going in chronological order is the best at to do it. the plot is so ingenious, and each film answers the questions you had about the last one, and saw 6 answers every unanswered question there is. so if u buy this be sure to watch al the rest.

I am a fanitic SAW fan. the 1st one is the building block to all the rest. You cant watch this one without watching the sequels. The storyline is a little confusing but once you have watched it a couple of times (like me!!!!) you will get the storyline no bother.
Jigsaw(Tobin Bell) does not reveal himself in this first installment however you are kept guessing who it could be till the end of the movie.
5 stars. mint film
