Product Description

When Ina Garten opened her fabulous food store, The Barefoot Contessa, it soon became the most popular place in town and attracted masses of visitors all year round. But after 18 years, Ina needed a new challenge and she turned her hand to writing up her wonderful recipes and the great tips on style and entertaining that are the hallmark of her work. And it wasn't too long before Ina became one of America's most successful cookery writers. Her "New York Times" bestselling books went on to sell more than 3 million copies worldwide and today she is one of the stars of America's Food Network, where she attracts weekly audiences of more than 5 million. Genuinely warm and inspiring, Ina is America's own Domestic Goddess, and her television popularity has carried over to the UK. She is currently one of the most successful and respected cooks on UKTV Food, Britain's only dedicated food channel which has a daily viewing audience of more than 500,000. This ever-growing tv profile is all down to the accessible, no-nonsense approach Ina takes to cooking delicious meals that even beginners can conjure up. Added to this is the little touch of luxury she offers in both her books and her tv shows, all photographed and filmed against the glorious backdrop of her fabulous kitchen and garden in East Hampton. Now, in "Back to Basics" Ina offers almost 100 brand new recipes, all tried and tested to the highest standard and beautifully illustrated in full-colour throughout. Focusing on her simple techniques, this book has something for everyone. So, whether you're aiming to prepare a delicious main-course 'crowd-pleaser', a quick and easy tea-time treat, or something a little more sophisticated for a special occasion, they're all here - and with simple instructions to guarantee success every time!

Read it and drool!5
If you haven't discovered Ina yet you are really missing out! Even if you don't watch her on UKTV Food (and seriously, do!) you will still love this book. Don't be put off by the 'Back To Basics' concept. It's less 'How To Boil An Egg', more bringing the best out of all your ingredients, be it by technique (slow roasting tomatoes to concentrate flavour) or combination (plums with cassis to bring out the 'pluminess').

The book is beautiful and Ina is such an amiable companion. You'd be hard pushed not to find something to make your mouth water just thinking about the recipes. Brownie Pudding, anyone?
Other temptations include: French Bistro Steaks with Provencal butter, Italian Wedding Soup, Baked Shrimp Scampi, Blueberry Streusel Muffins and Fresh Raspberry Gratins.

The only difficulty is choosing where to start. Personally, I think it'll be the Pomegranate Cosmopolitan while I consider my next move...

The Barefoot Contessa : Back to basics5
A T.V cook that understands her viewers. Her books are no exception, well layed out recipes and beautiful pictures. A handy US/UK conversion chart
and FAQ section. Overall a winner 10/10The Barefoot Contessa: Back to Basics

Great content but to recipes are the same from her other books3
I love Ina Garten and the Barefoot Contessa series. However, as I have collected all her previous books, I was a bit dissapointed with this one. Her recipes are great, easy to do and always delicious. But this book is mostly made up of recipes from her previous books. So if you don't have her other books then it is a great buy. If you have her other books then keep in mind many of the recipes you already have. I give 3 stars for the duplications of recipes. Otherwise it would be 5.
