Icecream without Additives
An excellent machine - I would have given 5 stars but having to remember to put it in the freezer a day before can be a nuisance, it is a bonus if you have room to store it there permanently.
Knowing exactly what goes into the product is a bonus but I use mine to make dairy-free icecream which is really expensive to buy from a shop. This machine pays for itself in no time.
Cool
This is a great piece of kit. I bought it in January 06 to replace an old, smaller Magimix ice-cream maker with a coated insider (like a non-stick surface) which was starting to peel off. This one has no coating and it just a pure and rather stylish stainless steel. I chose this one so it could double up as a ice bucket, which is does well as there is no branding on the main tub.
Oh, and the ice-cream is very nice too. The paddle is nice and large and works well, getting all the way to the edge of the tub. The mixture usually doubles in size (which is not something you can easily achieve without a machine, so you get more servings too. The recipe book is useful and reliable and like all Magimix products, it's tough and good quality.
Makes making iced cream and sorbet easy
The Magimix is well designed making it easy to use and extremely easy to clean. The covering for the bowl is cleverly designed to protect the motor housing. The cover, paddle, and bowl easily clip into place and come apart and cleaning up takes less than five minutes. We've enjoyed many kilos of the summer's blackberries in homemade sorbet and made an unforgettably rich and delicious Rose Geranium flavoured ice cream so far. The bowl at 1.5 litres just fits into our small freezer compartment and requires overnight freezing. If you are refreezing the bowl just after having made a batch, it takes only a few hours to be usable again. The whole process works best if the ingredients are made in advance and completely cooled in the refrigerator. Ice cream takes about 25 minutes and the sorbet takes about 30 minutes processing in the maker and both are delicious eaten immediately or saved in the freezer for later. (Take them out of the freezer compartment about half an hour before serving, or they are liable to be too hard.) Even with the 1.5 litre size it is safer to use only about a litre of unprocessed ingredients at a time as frozen ingredients expand. Large families may find one batch makes a bit too little to go around, although each batch gives six good sized servings. We wonder why we didn't get one sooner.
