Packed with features, the slimline Medion MD40288 DVD player offers multi-region playback, Dolby Digital 5.1 sound and MP3 playback--all at an extremely attractive price. The DVD player can handle many different types of disc including DVD, VCD, SVCD, CDDA, CVD, CD-DVD, Mini-DVD as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs containing MP3 audio files or JPEG images.

On the front of Medion MD40288 you have all the standard playback buttons and around the back you'll find all the standard outputs for video and audio including SCART, S-Video, Composite, Coaxial, optical and Dolby 5.1 outputs. The stylish, but strangely longer than normal, remote control fits nicely in the hand and all playback options are easily accessible. One button worth mentioning on the remote control is the digest button. Press this and you're presented with little snapshots of all the chapters on the disc including any hidden 'Easter Eggs' that may be on the disc. Simply select the snapshot you want to view and hit play to view it.

The Medion MD40288 will keep audio fanatics entertained with its plethora of sound options and audio outputs. The player features a high quality 96 kHz/24-bit Audio D/A converter for superior audio reproduction of encoded discs. Add to this Dolby Digital and DTS support, coaxial digital audio outputs and the ability to downmix audio. For those without a home cinema setup, the Medion MD40288 also includes a virtual surround sound mode through the external analogue output sockets on the back of the player.

One impressive feature is automatic television conversion of NTSC/PAL discs. Basically, what this means is that if you play an NTSC disc on a PAL only TV, you'll get a good colour picture, meaning you don't need an NTSC compatible television in order to play discs from another country. This depends on the television as some older models may not playback in colour. The comprehensive multi-language user manual is very easy to understand and goes into great detail on setting up the player and explaining all the functions.

Medion MD40288 Multi-region DVD Player - Great Value!!!
Wow, what a lot of DVD player for your money. The Medion MD40288 must be the best value for money DVD player on Amazon. Setup within 5 minutes from opening box to playing the first DVD. It is so easy that even all you technophobes will have it up and running without any complications. No messing about entering codes to change it to multi-region player either, popped in a region 1 disc and it played just like a region 2. I tried out one of our family home DVD-R with no problems, something that had to be watched on my computer up until now.
I honestly do not see the point of purchasing any other higher priced DVD player when the Medion MD40288 does exactly what you need for a fraction of the price. The technology and quality that it offers is something that you will only find on a more expensive £100.00 plus models. If pushed to find a negative point it would be that it is a little noisier than other DVD players when the disc has been loaded and it is searching the disc but this is by no means a problem nor does it distract from this fantastic player. I am so impressed that I have already purchased two MD40288's and I am about to purchase a third, a Christmas gift for a member of the family.
To top it all, Amazon's service was superb and the DVD player arrived quicker than advertised and well packed. Has to be the best GBP39.99 (per player) I have spent in a long time. I would be very surpised if this DVD player receives any bad reviews because it cannot be faulted. Apart from the player the following items were included : Manual, Remote Control, Scart lead and two AA batteries.

Excellent value for money
This DVD player is an absolute bargain. It plays pretty much all the type of disk you would want. So far I have played DVDs (Region 2), audio CDs, MP3s on CD-R, VCDs, and MPG files on CD-R. The picture quality seems fine to me.

It comes with a remote control and batteries, a scart lead and the back has scart out, s-video out, composite video out, digital audio out (both co-ax and optical) and 6 analogue audio out for 5.1. The manual has 25 A4 pages in English, which don't go into huge detail, but are enough to get you started.

When playing CD-Rs of MP3s, you only get to see the first 8 characters of the folder and file names, and you really need the TV on (perhaps unless you put all the MP3s in the root directory).

A better user interface for MP3 CDs is my only criticism, but for the price, I can only give this a maximum rating.

Who are Medion? well i'd never heard of them until i went to university and got my student house opposite an Aldi Supermarket. Medion i am told are a German company who are relatively new compared to their competitors. Medion first came to my attention when i popped into Aldi one day and noticed they were selling computers, Medion computers. They were well priced, packed full of features and stylish at the same time which is exactly what this DVD player is. Since seeing the computers i have bought a couple of their products and they all have a solid and stylish feel about them. Anyhow this DVD player is superb, i did a lot of research before buying it because i was dubious as to exactly how good a £40 DVD player could be. In checking review websites of DVD players the main problem with the cheaper players is their sound capabilities, but this player is great it gives you so many audio options (including Dolby 5.1 and an analogue surround feature) that it is almost impossible to not get that cinema feeling at home. The picture quality as you would expect is crystal clear, the player is quiet and it looks really slick. Not only that but the manual is straight forward and easy to understand and the range of discs it can play is unbeatable it even plays mini DVDs. Having only had mine a couple of days i can not say i have experianced all it has to offer yet but this player oozes (like with most other things that are German) style, efficiency and it feels solid, just think of Bosch or BMW. For the money that this player costs you can not go wrong Medion are definately a company you can trust.
