Editorial Reviews

Manufacturer's Description
The Alligator makes the horrible job of chopping onions quick and easy. It chops onions (and other vegetables) finely at a stroke. The idea came to Swedish designer Benny Engdahl after struggling with the chore of chopping onions for his wife. The name Alligator came when his 5 year old daughter said of the prototype Daddy, it looks just like an alligator with its mouth open!

    Complete Waste of Money1
I suffer more than most with onion tears so was excited to buy this product. It's quite useless. The amount of pressure needed to chop an onion is so much I ended up placing the item on the floor and kneeling on it! Sometimes that works, other times you end up having to hack a semi cut onion out of the damn contraption. Suffice to say ours is now in the bin. If you want to cut onions quickly, albeit not 100% safely, go for the "V" Slicer. Great on onions and white cabbage, even potatoes and carrots.

    Great expectations, huge disappointment1
I bought this product after reading that it was a patented design, sweedish manufactured and that it had won kitchen product of the year awards. However after recieving the product, I dicovered its difficult to use requiring a significant amount of force and most of all it doesn't always dice the onion properly with the onion often gettiung jammed and the blades unable to slice through it. The product is flimsy and the plastic bends when chopping an onion. Its OK for cutting softer vegetables but unless your totally incompetent at cutting an onion with a knife I'd stay well clear.

    Not that good.2
Any time saving cutting device, be it a food processor cutting discs, a mandolin (v-cutter) or this onion chopper is a compromise between how good you are with a knife, how many vegetables you have to do and how much washing up it requires when you are finished. I would rate myself about average with a knife, well below TV chefs but better than my wife and I think a knife is less work overall than this machine for the average domestic task. I agree with the other reviewers that it requires too much force to make it work and I have only used small onions, I feel I will finish up breaking it. Also after you have done the first cut it is not easy to turn the onion around to make the small cubes, it falls all over the place. When you are finised and have to wash it up it is difficult to get the little pieces of onion out off all of the nooks and crannies.

I rate it below a mandolin which is also more versatile and you can get for the same kind of money on Amazon.
