Why buy Le Creuset cast iron?

No matter which shape, size or colour you prefer, the recipe has always stayed the same since 1925.

Two sand moulds are fastened together with a small gap between them. Then molten iron from a large cauldron (a ‘Creuset’) is poured between them. Once the shape is cast, and iron is cooled, each dish is finished by hand, enamelled and ready for you to experiment with.

Gorgeous colour - cooking with cast iron is a real treat!
Another beautiful cast iron casserole dish from Le Creuset. I only own one (this one!) but have seen most of the other colours and this one is definitely a favourite.

The 'Satin Blue' enamel finish is actually a more vibrant shade of blue than it looks from the picture - more of a robin's egg colour, and much less muted/white.

Fantastic to cook with. The handle on the top, although not cast iron, is heat proof enough that you can put the whole thing right in the oven. I also use mine on the hob and it is just brilliant for frying onions 'just right' - I had never had compliments on my onion frying technique before I did them in the Le Creuset! There is something about that heavy cast iron base that just works.

A great piece of kit, I wouldn't be without mine. I must avoid dropping it on a flagstone floor - other than that, this seems pretty much unbreakable ...
