Not for the couch potato child!5
My little 2 and a half year old has Down's syndrome and absolutely adores Dave - he is now making animal and tractor noises, as well as dancing (although he can't walk yet!) while watching. Dave engages with his young viewers and is very clear in his spoken and signed language. Dave has an amazing ability to make sure the child watches actively, with their whole body and all their senses, rather than vegging in front of the telly. This is the only program our boy is allowed to watch! The video is also inspirational if you are considering the use of Makaton with your child.

Educational, yes, but great fun too5
We were recommended this for our son, who has an autistic spectrum disorder, by his Portage worker when he was three years old.

It's great fun and widely applicable as a help to communication. The songs are performed with immense gusto and I challenge anyone not to tap a toe as Dave gives it his all. Although they all have signed accompaniment, it's not necessary for the child to know or use Makaton to enjoy it - our son, in fact, developed enough speech for this not to be necessary but still loved the tape (and returns to it now from time to time, some years on). Dave moves from the farm to the school and out onto the playground for the settings of his songs. Something we found particularly useful was the school setting in that, for a child with social communication problems, it provides a form of virtual interaction with other children: your child can sing along with the same songs as the children in the video and thus gain practice in playing alongside children in what s/he finds a safe, controllable environment. Strongly recommended for any child with some form of communication problem and probably great fun for children without one.

Excellent. This Video changed my sons life.5
I bought this video after I saw it on in my son's nursery. He loved it and was coming home and using makaton.
At the time we were aware that our son had some problems and we were communicating..Just. After watching this video our family have been taking makaton class and now my son is Talking as he is signing. Most people find his actions odd. I do not care he is communicating with us and the world.
Thank you Dave and all the wise people at Makaton.
God bless you. When is the next one out?
