Fantastic trainer - light & airy
This trainer is great - very light & airy - one of the best Merrell shoes I have worn. For UK sizing it does seem to run half size larger than it actually is. Great for hot weather :-)
My serach for the perfect hot weather shoe is over
I have been searching a long time for the perfect shoe to wear in hot weather, I have found it in the Merrell Maipo, they are very light and airy, I can feel my feet are much cooler than with my other more expensive walking shoes. As an outdoor swimmer they also double as shoes to be worn in the water or on the beach and give more protection than sandals or flip flops, the soles of the shoe have an incredible grip, I nearly didn't buy these shoes as I read a review on another site saying the soles squeak when you walk, they did this for about 2 minutes as most new shoes do, all you have to do is walk around for a bit then the noise is gone. they are a generous fit which allows for your feet to swell in the heat which is a real bonus to me. no more sweaty feet :)
saved me life more than once
I guess it sounds outrageous to say these shoes saved my life more than once but they did last year when i was trekking in Ladakh. Originally I bought them for their comfort, selected from >30 different kinds of pumps, shoes and boots, and they were also light and cool which I thought would be perfect for cycling in a hot climate. Admittedly they didn't look too attractive being black and grey and so to make them look a bit more attractive I put some electric blue laces on them. When I arrived in India I gave up my initial idea of cycling and chose to go trekking, first in Nepal and then in Ladakh. Over three months I gave these shoes a hell of a beating. Being made for watersports they were comfortable when wet from rain or snow and as long as I had a spare pair of socks I could keep my feet warm. But it was in Ladakh they did their job. I got myself into some tight spots trekking and climbing and if it wasn't for the excellent grip on the soles I would surely have tumbled to my death.
Ok, the shoes fell apart a bit here and there, and smelt a bit too, but nothing I couldn't fix, or live with, so for their trekking comfort and versatility, these shoes are my first choice when exercising in a hot climate.
