Super super scrabble
I already have travel scrabble and the very old travel scrabble and when I saw this was out, I had to have it. The board is very large but is really sturdy and the tile racks and tiles are high quality and durable. There is a different coloured square in the board so you can play both 'normal' and 'super' scrabble. Its great with overlapping double word tiles so you can quadruple your score, as well as the new quadruple word tiles in each corner and quadruple letter scores makes it a very highscoring and competitive game! I highly recommend it.
The original popular word-game just got better
SUPER SCRABBLE is a variation of the classic boardgame SCRABBLE, only this one has a bigger board (21x21 instead of 15x15, although the 15x15 section is still marked out, so you effectively get the original SCRABBLE at the same time), more tiles (including 2 Js, 2 Qs, 2 Xs and 2 Zs, so words like PUZZLE and JAZZ are now possible without the need for a blank), and some new premium squares in the form of Quadruple Letter Score squares and Quadruple Word Score squares. Higher-scoring games are now possible (experienced gamers may even break into quadruple-figure scores!).
If you've played regular SCRABBLE before then you really have little need to read the instructions, as they are much the same, although some popular misunderstandings that have confused some players have been pointed out in the new instruction booklet. The tiles are wooden, as are the letter-racks, although I would have preferred it if the letter racks weren't curved in the bit upon which the tiles sit, and if the lip that holds them up were bigger; as they currently are it is quite easy to knock them off accidentally. I would also have preferred it if it was a board that only folded in half, like in previous SCRABBLE games, as this version folds into four and has a split on one half to enable you to do this, meaning that you cannot simply halve the board and tip the tiles into the bag when you have finished playing. Also, the game is a little bit on the expensive side, especially as they don't even provide you with a score pad and/or pencils.
However, the game is probably even more fun to play now, and if you liked SCRABBLE then there's no reason why you shouldn't like SUPER SCRABBLE. In fact, if you enjoy it but tend to get really low scores compared to everyone else then you might even feel that you stand a better chance due to the increased number of tiles (I have witnessed such occurrences in actual matches using SUPER SCRABBLE).
Fun but long
Having spent many hours playing Scrabble in the past we bought this as a new challenge. It does boost the ego to get large scores and we recently had four seven letter words in 5 turns. It isn't a quick game, but the number of tiles means that you can still catch up after falling miles behind. Tactics are slightly different and you become less concerned about leaving triple words open because there are so many scoring opportunities.
I was disappointed by the quality of the set, others have mentioned the folding board and not quite square letters, but it has already paid for itself in hours of entertainment. If we lose any tiles we will simply replace them from an old Original game.
As for scoring we use the travel scrabble to keep score although with just two playing we often both go past the 799 maximum.
