Expensive....But The Best!
Put simply, and to cut what could be a very long and arduous technical review of an iron, something we all use but don't really think about, short - this is a fantastic, fully featured, fast and smooth iron. In fact I'd go so far as to say that it is easily the ultimate in irons. But then, for the price, surely you'd expect nothing less?
The capacious water tank system works extremely well, the iron is rapid to heat up and the controllable and boostable steam pressure makes short work of any garment or object you throw at it.
The cord is the perfect length, unless you're intending to iron in a different county than your plug socket that is, and the iron itself is light, easily controllable and thanks to the easyglide base, absolute childs play to use.
What more can I say?
If you're looking for THE iron to own, look no further. Just press buy.
*-*-*-*-*-*Absolutely brilliant iron for every home*-*-*-*-*-*
Stunning design and brilliant application of science come together in this powerful steam iron from Phillips, one of the best known and most respected companies in the world.
Its lightweight, easy to hold with ergonominic handle design, and really delivers a powerful punch with a mighty 110 grammes of steam delivered a minute for fast crease removal, and an even more incredible and powerful 150 grammes a minute for tough and troublesome creases and hems.
It has an impressive 2 minute start up time, ideal for those last minute dashes to work when you discover you have dripped breakfast down your front!
You can even iron and freshen up curtains while they are hanging with the extra long cord linking the iron and water reservoir giving you a previously unobtainable finish.
The sole plate of the iron has had a new design, and is now called 'SteamGlide', an apt name for the almost frictionless base which lets you glide througn stubborn fabrics with ease, even textured fabrics and heavily creased linens.
Finally, the detatchable water reservoir has also had a new make over with an amazing 1.4litre capacity, which gives you up to three hours (phew!) of ironing time on a single fill which you can, incidentally, fill straight from the tap!
So... in conclusion this is a fantastic bit of kit, well worth the money and you will be more 'time rich' as it frees you from the hours stuck behind the ironing board.
A top iron
I recently received this iron, replacing an aging steam press and a reasonably posh 'normal' iron (also Philips).
This is a steam generator which, unsurprisingly, generates a huge amount of steam - no fancy ions, vibrations or otherwise - just lots of steam, which sorts out the creases in my clothes in double quick time.
It's a fairly chunky unit and not overly portable - the handset does not lock to the base unit, though there are cable tidies and carry handles - however it fits nicely on the side of my ironing board and the steam and electrical cable lengths are very generous - no running out of flex, nor having the steam flex kink itself into loops.
The water tank is large - I haven't needed to fill mine up for quite awhile - much longer than a hand iron.
Performance wise - very good indeed - lots of steam produced quickly (within a few minutes of start up. The unit can run a little low on pressure after prolonged ironing - the pump seems to come on a fraction later than would be ideal, however once running it doesn't take long to build up the steam again.
There are four levels of steam and the usual temperature settings for the iron. In addition, there are two pressures for the steam - 'normal' which comes out the majority of the iron, or the a high pressure version which comes from the tip of the iron only for hard to reach places. Be careful if you accidently start the steam mode when the iron isn't flat - it's a very powerful, very hot stream of steam.
Overall a fantastic iron, though at £180 this is to be expected!
