Perfect as a first time digital camera, the easy to use controls and intuitive graphical user interface make it a joy use; it really is a matter of pointing and shooting. Fujifilm's Automatic Scene Recognition (SR AUTO) technology intelligently recognises the type of scene you are shooting and adjusts the camera settings to optimise results, saving you the hassle with having to fiddle about with buttons selecting the scene yourself. All you have to do is point the camera at the scene and press the shutter button - the FinePix A170 will know what you're taking a photo of and automatically optimise the camera's settings. SR AUTO can detect up to six scene types: Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait, Backlit Portrait, Macro and Night.

Picture Stabilisation minimises image blur that often ruins photos

The A170 is kitted out with Picture Stabilisation, which minimizes the image blur that can so often ruin photos. Fujifilm's stabilisation system works automatically and ensures that image blurring and camera shake are kept to an absolute minimum.

The FinePix A170 features a 2.7" LCD screen which is ideal for composing and viewing your photos. Plus, the very handy Microthumbnail View displays up to 100 thumbs of your photos on the back of the screen so you can quickly and easily find your favourite shot.

Excellent little camera
I recently bought this to replace our existing and ancient one. I was looking for a decent camera that wasn't too bulky or fancy and didn't cost too much; this was just the ticket. It has the usual anti-red eye function with the added bonus of being able to take videos (still to be used), panoramic and face detection (ideal for making sure your photos are in focus!

It runs on AA batteries so it's worthwhile investing in some rechargeable ones as it can be quite draining, however I like that it's battery operated. Most digital cameras are re-charged through the USB port on your PC but what if you don't have a PC handy? This camera doesn't have that problem: just make sure you have some spare batteries and off you go! The pack even comes with 2 batteries to get you started.

I used the camera for the first time at some friends' wedding and I was very pleased with the resulting photos: clear, no blurring and good quality. The camera itself was lightweight and easy to use, from taking the photos to deleting them. While the accompanying software and transferring the photos from camera to PC were a breeze. I particularly liked the fact that after uploading the photos to the PC they weren't wiped from the camera's memory card, which is what our old one did!

It would have been nice if it came with a protective case but all-in-all an excellent purchase that is good value.

I'm sorry to say I dont rate it . It good pictures but It will not load into windows xp. I'm 77 years old and apart from the help pages, which I could not get to grips with, Fujifilm never answer my e-mail questions or tey to help me at all. wish I had not bought it
