DMC-TZ5 noise
I have a Canon IXUS 900 which has 1024 pseudo hi def 15 fps video. The quality is superb, noise and grain free in a wide range of lighting circumstances. I bought the TZ5 as it offered an astounding 30 fps at 1280x720 .. HD video out of a still camera...extraordinary!

I was really amazed at this, and made the awfully silly assumption, that in this 'competitive' high tech day and age, there wouldn't be much difference in picture quality.

The pictures from the Canon look like crisp professional photographs. Loads of colour depth and no noise in a wide range of circumstances. The TZ5 by comparison, with a slightly smaller pixel count, is noisier in its 'default' auto setting. This is mainly due to the auto ISO feature which seems to erroneously run at 400 when a more appropriate 100 setting would do, albeit it slower shutter speed. Setting the Auto ISO off and selecting manually the ISO to 100 gives a cleaner picture. However, you have to hold still ..and this definitely wouldn't work in poor light condtions.
Colour wise, the Canon has the slight edge. The colours look more like what you're seeing, although the excellent colour display on the TZ5 does LOOK like the scene.. the off memory colour doesn't match.
The 1280 video feature is definitely a great feature, and the zoom lens is brilliant.

Great Digital Camera.
I owned this camera in silver colour and sold it to buy same camera in brown colour because I love it in brown and at the same time it was scarce and expensive if you could find one. When I spotted the brown colour on Amazon from a third party seller as a fairly used camera then I bought it but had to return it back to the seller because somehow, it did not look ok to me.
Because this is a great camera and since I could not get it new in brown, I decided to buy it agin in black colour from Camerabox with 2yrs warranty. So I am happy again.
