Customer Reviews
Fine for complete beginners
This book has lots of basic information on what to put and where to put it but I thought that some of the looks (maybe it was the photography) were not flattering to the models at all. For that reason I didn't find it inspiring at all.
Perfect guide for beginners
As a make-up student, I found this book really helpful. The information provided on the tools, skin types, cleansing, toning etc were very practical and easy to follow.
The book also has little 'nuggets of wisdom' known as trade secrets. I hope everyone finds this book as useful as I did.
Very basic
I chose this title based on the credentials of the author (lecturer at College)
given that I am currently doing an ITEC Beauty Specialist course which includes
an element of make-up.
True that it's aimed at the beginner make-up artist, however I was expecting to
have more on the description of the eye shapes and how to actually apply colour
shadows on it (i.e. the highlighter medium tone and the dark/shading). Also, it
lacks depths on the countouring and highlighting techiniques which are essential
for most make-up, specially for bridal, photographic and evening.
As another reviewer said: although the make-ups might have been good, the photography
is not very flattering to the work. The male make-up is good though.
The section of types of make-up (i.e. foundation, gels, cakes, etc) and tools is
good and informative.
For the beginner I would rather recommend the one by Robert Jones - MAKE-UP MAKEOVERS
which although American, it shows all the basic techniques for the beginner and some
outstanding makeovers to a variety of women with different skin colours and ages.
